My First Walmart Knife Purchase

Walmart is a last resort for purchasing, after not being able to find it anywhere else or being out of stock for an extended period of time. There are often a couple brands where you can find stock there you won't find anywhere else, but you're not going to save any money by shopping there and you're not supporting local knife stores that give you so much more.
But if you absolutely have to have a knife at 2am… and duct tape… and rope… and a gas can… Walmart is the place.

I bought Cryo from WM too, long time ago, along with the Shield and the other Hinderer colab - the Ferrite.
‘Didn’t like the stubby blade of the Cryo and gave it away, but the guy is still using it, the DLC is a big plus,
it keeps the blade clean and nice, especially if you put some minimal care, wiping it off, Flix it once in a while and strop or sharpen it.
One big asset of this whole line IMO is the design by Mr Hinderer, those are well thought knives and despite the inexpensive price, materials and Chinese manufacturing they work well and will work well long enough to worth the $$

I got one of the Buck 119 anniversary knives for about $45. But my best deal was a bunch of Fallkniven F1's on-line - sold and shipped by Walmart. Black blade, leather sheath. I got 5 of them for $100. delivered. They are genuine, just maybe older stock and/or a wrinkled box. The hologram stickers checked out as did the details of the knives. Gave away 3, sold one for $60.

A few months back, I should have bought some Buck 110's with ebony scales when they were on the shelf for about $35.

Valid points. Personally I don’t have a local knife store near me. This was more of a spur of the moment, no plan, purchase for me. They actually had some rifle ammo in stock that caught my eye which led to me looking down into the knife case.

As far as price goes, the same knife on average is $8 more plus shipping (free shipping requires more than $44 being spent) from the two online knife suppliers I buy from.

I actually didn’t see any other knives at Walmart that interested me. I was more intrigued with the lack of stock. I wondered if it’s a supply chain issue or people buying? The worker I dealt with did not know the answer.

Interesting. I’m in SE Florida. Plenty of good ole boys still here. Guns, knives and pickup trucks are the game!
Yeah, our WM doesn't carry guns , and doesn't seem to be interested in stocking knives beyond bare minimum for the last few years.

Our local one has guns, and a small decent amount of knives, some good brands along with the inexpensive ones.when I was visiting someone in SC, the local one had Buck 110s for 35.00, should have picked one up.

I generally do not shop at Walmart, as a matter of both principle and that I don't care for the local store. Dirty and rundown. I've probably only been two or three times in the last 5 years, and only because someone wanted me to go with them.

People say $42 for a Buck 110 is a deal. Seriously? Just a few years ago I bought one for $28 IIRC. That's like a 45% price increase.

When compared to historical prices, sure, it's not a good deal.

Considering that most places (even solid dealers that BF members often recommend) have it listed for $60, it is a good deal.

Walmart ain't the ideal place to pick up a knife, but they can have some "diamonds in the rough". Might arguably be a better choice when one is out of town and knifeless than a hardware store.

My local one has carried Bucks and Kershaws for as long as I can remember. They've had Spydercos in the past. My second Rat 1 was bought there as well.

Agree to what you said about buying knives in walmart. It may not carry high end knives. But I see no reason not to buy less expensive ones like Kershaw and Buck from it. I actually even bought a Leatherman Charge TTI a few years ago from Walmart online due to the price.

Well, it may just be me but I would never buy a base Buck 110 for $60.

This knife section is AMAZING compared to my local Big 5... no Buck, Gerber, Old Timer, nothing, just Wartech and M-Tech and Smith and Wesson trash....
I wouldn't buy from Walmart. It feels really bad.

I've bought my fair share from WM. No different from buying from a big box sporting goods store if they have what you want.
Also.. the display at my WM looks as bare as rampco88😵‍💫
It is different if you were wondering why one would say that, as they bully companies about pricing, and tend to push mom and pop shops out of the area because sometimes folks cannot pass up prices or convenience. Not criticizing you for shopping there, I am just saying why one might want to consider not shopping there. There are also Walmart specials, like, say a power tool, that sold normally has regular metal gears inside. There is a deal on them in Walmart though, $15 bucks cheaper. This version, looks like the same tool but is produced just for Walmart, and has plastic gears.

I like a place that is not that sneaky, that is a bit more personable, that doesn't feel like shopping in the mental asylum or prison commisary.
