That snow looks like day before yesterday Rattsie...
The little dusting that Pike County and Floyd County got....where you at in KY?

What kind of clothing did you wear? If you don't mind my asking.

You didn't even have to show your books...your fire setup gave you away! That log reflector wall is telltale Kochanski/Sears.

Did you get very cold?

(I'm notorious for hating on lean-to's for anything other than summer camping and getting out of the rain in a hurry... :o)

Nice pics!

It's great to see some winter camping photos. Looks like you made things pretty comfortable, too.

All the best,

- Mike

Good looking wind break/heat reflector! Looks pretty comfy...thanks for sharing. My son and I are planning the same thing. It's not really a "cold winter" outing down here in GA, but low temps have been in the mid 20's to mid 30's. I'm hoping to plan it after it dries out a bit...cold is tolerable, cold and wet just sucks:D

Josh, Way to go. Getting out and doing that stuff is so much fun and great learning tool.
Love that orange handled knife by the way ;)

KEm SAT survival can you e-mail me or pm me. thanks I have a question on that surivival knife you posted one time in a thread by pit dog. Your knife design had a orange handle on it.

Take care all, Josh you the man lol.

Good for you, nice job buddy.

How cold was it, how did you sleep, what worked and what didn't?

Tell us about please.

Looks like fun. How long was the trek in/ out? We have 6" snow in the valley here, I would guess well over 50" where I usually camp, gonna be a few more months till I could get up there, did the elk hunt and had 3-4" before it even started.. fun to bed down in.

Really nothing like testing your gear/ skills as long as one know what they are doing, and does it safe. Thumbs up!

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I too am interested in your thoughts on what went well, and what needed improvement.

sorry for the delay, power went out for 2 hours, here's some more pics!!!!

Nice pics so far. looks like you had a decent time. How cold was it? Did the sleeping bag keep you warm enough?

Fisrt off, this was my first winter night in the woods, here's a list of my gear...

-Large Alice pack with frame
-8x10 blue tarp from walmart
-coleman max traverse mummy bag
-eddie beaur air mat (got it for $7 bucks)
-princeton fuel headlamp ( it's a lifesaver)
-12cm zebra stainless pot
-ontario 18" machete
-breeden pathfinder
-benchmade 555 mini grip

It took me two hours to collect enough fuel to last me 8 hours, the temperatures started out in the high 20's during the day but at around 4 p.m. you could tell it was cooling off, so I started the fire....I used pj cotton balls with firesteel to get the fire going...I cooked ramein in the zebra pot, and had some summer suasage to snack on later....The headlamp was lifesaver, it let my hands free to do whatever, while still having a light source on...The temp's got down in the low teen's at night, the sleeping bag worked great ( I got it from wally world).....The only time I felt a chill was @ 5:30 in the morning, so I got up and stocked the fire a little....

I'm truley at home with a machete, I just got a wetterlings hachet from bens backwoods, but don't have the skills yet...Everything you see in the pics was chopped with the machete, big logs and all..I got 6 1/2 hours sleep in the low teens in the middle of the woods, hell that's better than I get at my house.....I had a great time, hope this answered alot of the question, if not I'll try to....thanks
