Hi everybody! I normally hang out more in the Busse forum, as I am a die hard Busse fan.

I'm realy liking this forum though, and would love to learn more about woodcraft, wilderness survival type things.

Being a Busse fan... are there any users here who like any of the busse knives for this or are most more into the other makes/models?

I am thinking perhaps the Busse Culti or BAD would probably work.

I guess I'd really like to buy a nice knife specifically for woodcraft, carving, making camp etc. I prefer no more than a 4" blade, but am open to hearing all comments on this. I know there are tons of knife posts already so if you dont want to talk about other brands, at least give your thoughts on the Busse line of knives and which models you feel would be good for this.

Thanks!

Jon

One of the thinner GAMEWARDENS would be awesome!!! I love that knife

+1 on the Warden. The Game Warden works pretty good when you thin the edge down a little. You just can't baton with it being the blade is so short.

They're a little thicker than most would recommend. There are no steadfast rules regarding knife disign. If a Busse works for you then, by all means, have at it.

It isn't the tools. Its the skills, knowledge and experience.

Hmmmmm! Well, I have the thinnest GW made... a Black Tie which is .14" thin.....

I also have the new ones shown here with my GW... the SAR3LE, but I was thinking I'd get rid of it and get something else, as its close in size to the GW.

A SAR3 or 4 with a convexed edge would work great.

As would a Swamprat Ratmandu with the edge convexed.

A bushcraft knife doesn't HAVE to have a scandi edge and look like one of the commonsy sold models to work at bushcraft. It just needs an edge profile and geometry which lends itself to efficient cutting. Especialy in wood.

Welcome to W&SS, Whiskey!

I wish I could give you pointers on Busse knives for duh wuhdz...but I can't, because I don't know Jack Schidtt about 'em.

Rupestris pretty much drilled it, though.

I have a BAD and a standard Game Warden which work well. The other one is too expensive to use (ASH LE).

I must respectfully disagree:D

I absolutely loved this little knife, unfortunately some piece of shat broke into my apartment and helped himself to my belongings this knife included:thumbdn: But the Warden is an awesome little knife.

A Culti or BAD would work and I'd pick them over the GW as I think the GW handle is far too short.

But....I suggest you buy a Mora. They're cheap, work great and you may find that it's all you need in a small knife. Then you can save your money for a bigger Busse.

My pick would be the AD then the GW. You would still need a chopper if you are into that but foe everything else the AD shines.

Thats what I am talking about!!! Thats a really nice GW.

I think for the money there are other many options than Busse's that would work far better for bushcraft. JMO others may disagree !

I'm all ears... that's what I want to know. I like the looks of the Culti for a smaller size knife. My GW also might work "OK".

I'm thinking more for things like carving a spoon, bowl etc. I'm not sure if there are better blades for those types of projects. A do-all type smaller blade. For the larger work... I am trying to decide on a small Ax/Hatchet or Battle Mistress, something along those lines.

Thanks for the comments so far!

Busse knives are super tough as are Swamprats which I have a few.
Their thick grinds, however, are not the best when it comes to shaping wood as in bushcraft.
A thin convexed edge with no scondary bevel as on ML Knives or a scandi grind works far better for this application.
Fiddleback Forge, Mark Wohlwend, Brian Andrews, JK Knives etc, etc all make great scandi's at a great price...if you have money for Busse's then the world is ya oyster buddy !!!;)
