If you drill the scales from the outside in, any splintering out of the hole will be on the inside of the scales.. (That is a little chip by the back pin isn't it? This moniter is getting old and dark.)

actually that is a grind mark from when i grinded the pin down! thanks for the tip though. any tips for grinding the pin?

cut it as close as you can then use a file to get it flush.
