My Five Year Old Daughter Wants A Knife

I would vote against CRKT Pazoda 2. I have a Pazoda (the larger one), and the lock is quite stiff on this one. You need to apply quite a bit of force to un-lock it.
Make sure you check the lock before you buy a knife for your daughter - will she be able to handle it safely herself?

At age 5, my daughters didn't have any experience with a non locking folder. I dulled her Spartan, until she got the hang of opening it and closing it. Which is good, because it got snapped closed on small digits a few times.

I was somewhere between 5-7 years and had my first knife. A vic camping. Parents were out the door and calling for me and I hurriedly snapped the small blade closed.. across the pad of my thumb making a horizontal score and cut deeper than superficial. It was so quick and keen that I didn't notice it until I walked away and made a fist with my hand and noticed that something felt funny there.

Wish I (parents) knew about super glue back then. A week with a band-aid on sucks once you've gotten spoiled with supergluing and go.

That is a great idea BladeChick! I didnt think about a box, she has painted one before with her mommy and uses it for her money and rocks (she likes to find pretty rocks) and Im sure she would love to paint another just for her knife. Shes been telling me she wants her own little knife to put next to my big knives, so I know that part wont be a problem, but her having her own little box to keep next to my factory boxes would be great.

The Benchmade money clip knife would be a good idea, money and knives.. awesome! lol.

I found a Shrimp on the bay for $13 so I pulled the trigger on it. I didnt know they were that inexpensive. Im thinking about buying her two.. just incase she loses one. I really think I picked the right knife, its perfect for her little hands, the knife is well built (thick blade and oversized pivot), a good steel that is easy to sharpen, lanyard loop, strong frame-lock, nice blade shape, the backspacer glows in the dark (which is the coolest thing ever to any kid-lol), and she loves it. Now my problem will just be keeping my mouth shut until her birthday. Lmao. The Shrimp will be here by the 13th and her Birthday isnt until the 5th...

Lol I'm about 16 years older than her. She'll turn 5 the 5th, I'll turn 21 the 16th of October.
I think she would absolutely love to have her own little knife box. That would give her a sense that her knives aren't in your box. But they're in HER box by your knives because that's where she wants it. Plus it's just too cool to have your own storage space as a kid lol. I would get two, pick up a pink and a purple one. That way she can have her choice of colors lol.

Sounds awesome, Ares.
I'm not judging you, but I prefer to support actual stores over the bay, and you can get a brand new one from a sponsored retailer for $13. Rant over.

I figured my daughters would get a Peanut or Classic first, but you've made a very strong case for the Shrimp.
Now, you'll need to get her a Thrunite Ti to go with it. The "Red" is more of a light raspberry, and very nearly pink.
(The blue is also light hued, and half way to turqoise.)

I love the box idea. We've done some larger ones together, but a little one just for the knife (and light) would be very special.
I could even make one for my Para2.

I would like to thank you guys for reading my post that was linked to my last post... and for your prayers. My daughter is fully recovered and doing great!

Her knife came in a couple of days ago, when everything was going on, but now that things have calmed down I was able to check it out. Its a really cool little knife. Its a brand new CRKT Shrimp, in pink. I really think shes going to love it. Thank you all for your help!
