Well I've been thinking about picking up a buck 112 (ranger) for a while and toda y I walked into an armynavystore and they had one in stock for 25%off (Sign from above)so I scooped it up, it feels great in my hand, and is razor sharp it feels very solid, but there is a barely detectable amount of play in the blade when locked, Probably not enough to bother most people but I'm wierd about things like that. Well anyway my challenge is to use it as my primary knife for all outsoor activities for the next year, I wil use it in conjunction with a hatchet and a sak when camping, but no fixed blad....(well maybe in bag for emergencies) , I'm going to give it a full year and see how this trio performs, And I'll be giving updates throughout. (No, I won't be battoning with it) I already found out htat it's decent at spreading peanut butter and jelly (2 important components of my daily survival) Wish me luck

Hang on to that knife! It's tougher than many people think to find a sharp blade that will do well at spreading PB&J! Definitely should be a requirement for any EDC.

Why would you want to go for a WHOLE YEAR without a fixed blade........thats just crazy:D

RR, it's a great knife. I had a 110 growing up and lost it on my uncle's farm. I'll be getting another when Gander Mountain discounts them this fall. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. -Matt-

ummm peanut butter and jelly aaaarrrgggg:D

good luck i think it's great with all the super knives and steel
it's nice to see someone go back to the basics

yeah I remember when I was 14 growing up in the catskills I had a buck ranger a .22 singleshot and a fishing poll and my parents had the house to themselves for what seemed like entire summers....good times, I didn't even give a thought than to my knife failing.I had it for 7 years untill my best friend lost it when I let him carry it while we where playing paintball...

No fixed blade for a year Riley......you will never stick it out bro, sorry !!!!;)

A bit of play is easily fixed, so if you want it tight, contact buck and see if they will do it for you at no cost. It's just a matter of peening the pin a bit to tighten everything up.

Gotta send my Schatt & Morgan Mtn. Man to Queen and have them do the same to it. Just a bit of barely noticeable lateral play. Then I might consider carrying it. :D

When I was a kid and one of my slipjoints got loose, I would wrap it in a washcloth and lay it on a hard surface, and tap it gently with a small hammer until it was tightened up. Just had to check after every one or two taps.

I just got a #112 last weekend at a pawn shop for $18.00, it is new, but made in 1985. I carred a #110 for years back in the 1980s! great knives!
