My friends challenge me to a knife making contest

I saw that one Bruce! That was a really cool design! If I remember correctly though, your bottle openers were right next to the blade, weren't they? Regardless, NE1987, I too thought the bottle opener was a neat idea, but I would try to make it so you can use it while the knife is in its sheath still. Also, I dont know if you need a smasher on the end of that blade, its small enough that you wouldn't be able to smash very hard. Just my thought though, I could be way off. I would like to see this when you get it done.

#1 didn't look too bad if you lose the jimping and enlarge the choil. The redesigned # 2 looks good but I would lose the jimping and add a bit more belly, but that's me. Do what you like and make sure to post pics.

Redesigned number 2 gets my vote. No Jimping needed. Adjust the pin locations. My humble $.02

On the same page with everyone else...

Really waiting for Bruce to show the Boot knife!

Ok drawing #3 is here. Just need to decide what wood for the handle and what kind of pins.

I like the blade shape of the first design (looks like the blade of the PM2) with the handle and choil of your fourth one. Good luck, and post pics when you are done:thumbup:

Okay, Bruce, I ask you what time it is and you tell me and show me how to build a watch!!! I had to go to the very last picture of that WIP to see that modified double guard which may or may not be a bottle opener. Come on, you'd have to explain the use to the average bear.;)

Paul, I made that boot knife in 2007' and I didn't get pictures of me opening beer with it but it does work. :)

If you still want to go with a bottle opener, you could use the style that is more like a hole and place it as a pommel, that way the second beer won't become so much a hazard.

I'm going to have to leave the bottle opener out. The more I think about it i don't need it. The beer I mostly drink is a twist off. I just hope the steel gets here soon. I keep changing my design!

Where is the "cool" factor ?
Pins out of some unique material?
Oak on one side, maple on the other?
As a wise man said, " it looks like any other...,"
Keep thinking. RyanW and Bruce Bump knives have high "cool" factors. Have another look their's perhaps? As do Mr. Paul's sheaths.
Have fun,

Dozier

sometimes simple is sublime. It's also a good place to start when starting is what you're doing.
