My friends hunting knife vs mine

Both "hollow ground".

Useless.

Convex the crap out of them and get rid of all that "metal" behind the edge.

There is a lesson here, something interesting and relevant, maybe even thought provoking?....I am just not sure what it is?
 
You know all the threads that say just pick one knife for life? This is just the opposite, but involves two knives.
 
I just wanted to show yall the differance between our knives ones a 3 inch folder the others a 5 inch fixed blade

They've been using this handle shape on knives for a long time ( usually lockback folders though ) so while it looks similar it's not the same knife.
Mine was made in Japan in the 80's and the handle was chrome plated but I painted it when it started flaking . as it says right on the blade it's called " the defender "
They're still made today with a different name and brushed finish blade.

BTW I'd never use mine as a hunting knife as its not very sharp and the steel sucks.
 
Neither of those knives are likely to be made of 440 anything. Likely a cheaper alphabet soup concoction of scrap tin cans and rusted hypodermic needles infested with aids. To be fair, some companies (Boker comes to mind) did a decent job with their 440C at the price point (<$30 for most part). I think my old Boker Subcoms and Trances were 440C before they switched to AUS8.

He didn't say "440C" he said that mystery "440" of Chinese legend.
 
I said the steel on my old cheapo knife sucked, and somehow he knew it said 440 on the blade when he didn't see the name on it in big bold letters.

My knife does suck, and it appears to be 10x better than his knife so his must be real garbage.

I would've expected that knife to be neon green and purple because that knife is a real joker &#128513;
I'll bet that thing would actually skin a dear better than the op's knife.
