My frist Mora

Man, none of the stores around me carry Moras. I wish they did, I hate buying online (although I made an exception for my clipper).

Stingray- I really like the sheath you have for yours. I've made a couple of similar sheathes that were stitchless for a Nessmuk and the first Puukko I made.

Is yours one piece stitchless? It looks like two pieces...does the tip poke out the bottom if you sheathe your knife too tightly? (A problem with my own) Any hiints or suggestions on how you did yours?

Very nicely done!

Yes it is one piec stitchless, and no the tip does not poke out of the bottom. The bottom is open and I can see how it could, but I made mine with a little extra length so it can't poke out. Like I said it is stitchless, but the way the design is the loop is too big and if you try to take the knife out one handed the sheath follows you halfway up, so I poked two holes through the loop and added piece of leathere strip and tied and glued it in the back so that the loop is only just large enough to accomodate a belt without any play. I also had a problem with the handle wanting to pull away from my hip because it is top heavy and I used fairly lightweight leather, so I added the keeper loop you see to the top of the belt loop. It just slips over the top of the handle and keeps the knife riding close to me.

When I first made it it was very tight, so tight in fact that had to use pliers to pull it all the way through the loops. You have to do this in an inconspicuous area though or you will see your plier teeth marks. I also accidentally put a small slice in the inside of the sheath because it was too tight, but I left it as is and now after haveing used it alot, it is just perfect. It has loosed up a lot and now has a nice snug fit, not a tight fit. If though your sheath is just way too tight you can adjust how tight it is by making the slits longer.

Here is a link to the tutorial I followed, except I added the couple of things I mentioned. http://www.primitiveways.com/pt-knifesheath.html Just remember that cutting the slit lengths right is the most important part. Test fit it a couple of time to make sure your aren't making them too big. Too big and it won't hold your knife snug, too tight and you won't be able to pull it thrkough the slots. If you have any other questions or want me to explain something better, feel free to email me.

Here is a pic to illistrate how the sheath is longer than the blade so the tip doesn't poke out.

And here are a couple of photos so you can see how I added the keeper loop and the "single stitch" to make the belt loop smaller. You can also kinda see were the belt loop reducer stitch in my first thread. Anyways, hope it helps.

IUKE12: Nice sheath, I'm going to have to try to make one like that sometime.

Thank you, Stingray! I appreciate the detailed description.

I've done two of them that way, but they came out....pretty....errr....primitive....:o

This is the first sheath I did that way (and the first knife I made with my own ten thumbs) a couple pounds of excess leather and as you can see, I did have trouble with the blade poking out the bottom.

My second attempt is here, in the middle. (You can also see my willy whup a$$ kydex sheathes from Normark in the pic):D

It worked out better than the first, after I trimmed off 3 pounds of excess leather and dyed and waterproofed it. Still nowhere near as refined as usable as yours is. They say practice makes perfect, but at the going price of leather practice is seeming to b a bit more scarce....:D

I seem to have my best luck when my wife does the layout of the sheath for me, like she did on this one:

Anyhoo, once again, thank you for taking the time to give the broader detail, it helps quite a bit.

Runs with scissors: Nice knife collection! I really like the knife you made too in the first pic.
This was actually my first attempt, the second I made was for my brothers mora so he has it. The tutorial I linked you to was/is a big help. I basically just did the layout exactly like the tutorial. You will waist a lot less leather if you draw it out on the leather and cut it to it's final dimensions then fold it together. You may wan't to do a little trimming here and there after wards but at least it won't be 3 pounds worth lol.
Another possible design problem that I noticed that could contribute to you point sticking out is that it seems that you made the sheath to go around some of the handle as well as the blade. If you noticed on mine, the sheath only excepts the blade and is folded over pretty tight so that the handle stops and can't be forced deeper into the sheath. I guess if you wanted to have the sheath cover some of the handle you could just make the slots around the blade part really tight and the slots around the handle part looser that way the knife can only go so deep before the handle can't fit through the blade slots. Hmmm... I might have to try this some time. Anyways, good luck on your next one, I'm glad I could help, and try to play with the layout until you like it befor you cut it out so that you only cut out what you want so you don't have to wast a lot of leather.
