My G-10 Dragonfly arrived...Pics

On my early FRN DF and SS DF, the blade can be pushed down until it hits the back spacer... Does the G-10 version still do this?
I'm interested in this as well. This was my main problem with the DFs I've had. Other than that it's actually my favorite Spyderco shape and I already have the G-10 version on the way.

I know with the frn Dragonfly you can squeeze the blade into the handle is this the case with the g-10 dragonfly

thanks for this post !

now i know what to get my sister forx-mas, since she lost her Ladybug while skiing.

i love the green G10, but the purple one ?

good we all have different taste !

Just got mine today (and it's perfect!) and no, this is not the case anymore. The blade won't press down at all, so the edge going straight into metal is no longer an issue.

I got mine yesterday, I think it's a great knife. 2 ounces aint' exactly a heavyweight :)

I have to a disagree, I love my new g-10 dragonfly but the weight really bothers me. It may only be 2 ounces but since it is a small knife it feels heavier and denser than other larger 2 ounce knives would. I have always carried a dragonfly for many years because it is lightweight and you don't notice it in the pocket. The new dragonfly is noticeable especially when wearing dress pants. If I am going to notice the knife in my pocket I might as well carry a bigger knife.

This brings the question whether the new g-10 dragonfly will be my EDC knife for the next few years like my old frn dragonfly was? I am going to guess once the novelty of the g-10 handle and jimping wears off, probably not. Unless I modify the knife by having one or both of the steel liners removed to make it lighter.

I am Still unsure, ask me again in a few months

Thanx much for the very nice pics and discussion and for the support.

The new G-10 Dragonfly2 is a pilot for the new FRN version. There is a prior thread somewhere on a discussion over whether or not to make the new FRN D'fly one piece with no liners or screw construction with nested skeletonized liners. Probably would be a good thing to bring back up now that the G-10 version is out there.

We'll be keeping the Left / right tip up wire clip and we'll keep an adjustable pivot. The new clip dpoesn't need liners so we have a choice.

I know that I'm biased, but in mh opinion, the G-10 D'fly is a very well made (custom quality) strong, gent's folder. A very good performer that is relatively invisible, polically correct, legal in most locations and socially friendly.

Sal,

I've been a long time user of Spyderco's. I've carried a left hand Executive since the 80's. The Dragonfly is in many ways superior as a carry knife. I like the skeletonized liners as they add strength at the pivot and appreciate the ambidextrous wire clip.

Whether new FRN Dragonfly has liners or not, I'll be picking one up. Nested liners would be great, but that's merely my personal preference.

Thanks for thinking of the members of the sinister sixth,
Jerry

If you were to use liners in the FRN version, would it be any lighter than the g-10 model.

Or at least feel lighter. I know that sounds odd. But I find it ironic that the new g-10 dragonfly feels heavy compared to the Spyderco "S" even though they are very close in weight.

Very well said, indeed. I couldn't agree more.

"No more than necessary and no less than perfect" is the goal.

We would try to make it as light as possible and still serve the customers wants. The steel back spacer / spring holder of the G-10 model is heavier than an FRN sping holder / back spacer.

would it be possible to replace the spring holder with another material like g-10? i felt like the spring holder in my g-10 endura made it feel pretty handle heavy. as far as looks are concerned the steel looked nice though. i do like nested liners but admit i have never held non-lined FRN.

I don't think that G-10 would be a good material to hold that spring. I think it could be done, but the spring holder would have to be redesigned. On an FRN version, we build support into the design. I guess the question would be; is there enough room for the aditional G-10 needed to effectively hold the spring for a long time?.

Sal, i know you hate being asked these kinds of questions, but do you have an ETA on the new FRN dfly?

Sorry Jake, we haven't begun tooling. I need to know if it will have liners or not bnefore engineering and concensus is not strong one way or another.

I'll need to do a count on the old thread or a poll in a new thread.

I have 6 dragonfly's now... a couple FRN versions. I vote for linerless on the FRN version. They are about close to perfect as they are. Some jimping on the blade for grip would make it perfect. Really like my G-10 version alot!

Thanks Sal. I prefer liners, but I'll buy one either way as long as theres a wire clip and jimping in the same places as the g10 Dfly
