I received this fine little #14 in Gabon Ebony from my wife for Christmas. I truly liked the knife, and the spear master blade was great. But, I prefer a clip master blade, so I re-ground the spear to a clip. This little beauty spends a lot of time in my pocket now! Hope you enjoy seeing it!

Regards,
Ron

Convincingly done, I have the same (original) piece.

How thick did the tip get as you raised it?

daizee: the tip is nice and thin, as it should be, due to the swedge being ground on both sides. It may not look exactly like it came that way from GEC, but I believe it's pretty close!

joeradza: all you have to do is take your time and make sure the steel doesn't overheat. I ground this one on my trusty ol' 4"x36" belt sander with a cup of cold water standing by to cool the blade. Never had a problem with the blade overheating.

Apologies, I totally mis-read. Thought it was a sheepsfoot to start.

Ah man! I open the thread saw the picture and thought.... hurray, another run!

I've always thought I'd love a 14 with a clip + pen. Well done.

Great look. The clip-point is a natural fit for the relatively long, slender frame of the 14.

That's a really good mod right there! Looks terrific. I often wonder why GEC doesn't make more clips as they always seem to be in high demand!

Turned out fantastic!!! Was debating on doing somethin similar...might have to after seein how awesome yours tuned out, GREAT job!!!

Makes me want to order a 14 and do the same maybe convert pen to modified pen like a texas jack. How long did it take you?

Generally, I like a Spear blade, but I think with this small frame it looks better with Clip. That's a top conversion too, I'm sending you mine to be 'fixed'....:D

What's it look like shut?

Thanks, Will

Nicely crafted clip blade - I love a clip blade as a main carry blade - cool too! OH

My thanks to all for your kind comments!
texmex03: it took all of about 5 minutes to re-grind the blade. The only reason it took that long, was that I was going slow and making sure I didn't overheat the blade as I did it.
will: I will try and get a photo of it shut today, so you can see how the blade rides in the frame.

Regards,
Ron
