My Girlfriend Thinks My New Sebenza Is Girly...

2012-05-07_22-41-49_753.jpg

It's definitely a very pretty knife, and a knife is a knife regardless of how feminine it looks. I always think of knives as practical art. I'm digging it, looks really sweet.

That would look great in a matching purse... ;)

I think that's a beauty - love the color and MOP inlay. If anything, it makes it very public friendly.

It's the purple that makes it girly. Should be dark green trees and mountain.

It just comes down to taste. I think it's a very well executed graphic and I appreciate the work that went into it. Purple does fall into the feminine color category, but I'm good with that.

The only thing that bums me out about it is I'm afraid to use it for fear of messing it up. Both my Large Micarta and my Large "Plane Jane" saw use straight out of the box and everyday since. This one however has only been out of the box a few times.

I don't know. I've noticed how quickly the anodization has worn off on the tip of the thumb lug on the plane jane and that's just from thumb use so I imagine the graphic will be completely destroyed with all fingers covering it during use.

Anybody reading this that uses their graphic Sebenzas instead of just taking them out to admire? Does the graphic fair better during use than the anodization of the thumb lug?

I don't mind scratches and wear on the other two, but on this one I'm a bit worried.

If you ever need to move that mountain to another home, give me a shout, like you I think it's a beauty! I have a graphic small that I carry, but I always have it in its protective sheath, holds up well, looks like new.

That's a mighty generous offer Lisa and in the unlikely event I decide to sell you'll be #1 on the list. Atleast you'll know you'll be buying a NIB mint unused Sebenza :p

Do you clean yours after you carry it? I know the provided calfskin will protect it from scratches and the like, but my main concern is ruining the anodization with natural skin oils and sweat and the like.

I'm just weird about not using my knives. I guess it doesn't feel like mine until I've carried and used it. Got to have atleast a little "bonding" time with the thing!

Like you, I worry about anodize fading from oils, so I don't carry the graphic small very often, I carry a wood inlay Mnandi the most.
When I do carry the small Seb, I wipe it down with the blue CRK cloth after each day. On the plus side though, I've bought some used graphic Sebs and the anodize has held up nicely.

It looks like the setting for a samurai battle. I think it would look better in dark green also. Oddly enough my wife has seen me looking at sebenzas before and commented that the blue thumbstud made the knife look girly.

Nope. Now that he said it, I just see boobs.

I thought he meant it looked like a nude woman laying on her side. The head, shoulder, hips, calves.

Now I see boobs too:D

Perhaps I should change the threads title to "Cloud Watching Via the Sebenza " or "Inkblot Test"...crazy what the mind perceives, alotta votes for naked lady:thumbup:

I just got this one, it's a new Small and was pleasantly surprised to find that the hardware is gold tone instead of blue.
There is enough blue in this one already. I really dig it, it's my first Sebenza.

How quickly life changes.

Well, right after I sold the 21 I bought a regular, I like the larger MOP "moon" and I guess I just prefer regulars given the choice.
The other issue is that I missed my night sky immediately after I sold it.
Here is my new one, also a small:

I like it. It's looks just like the early watercolor paintings we would do in Art class in junior college. It's always purple mountains to show distance, and we create trees the same way. So it's very "artistic" and not "girly." Of course, lots of girls take Art classes. I always liked that part.
