Glad to see this is still going.
A friend gave me a diamond stone he said he got from wally world to try. Its about an inch wide and 3 inches long, and is relativity smooth, maybe about 600 grit. Its all metal and has some heft.
I know this is basically heresy here, but I bought one of the pull through sharpeners at walmart. Its yellow and have a carbide side (dont worry Id never use that side) and a ceramic side. Very light too, perhaps under 2 ounces.

As far as I know lifeboat rations are basically protein and carb goop with a bit of flavoring. I should add some somewhere, they are going on my too order list.
The gold is just another storage of wealth, as are the euros. If Im dumping any wealth storage device from my bag, it is going to be the dollar.
MREs are my preferred meal in a bag, but they are heavy. They certainly do have their place, and for me, that is in the trunk
I have a cell phone in my EDC, and a real satellite phone is a bit of my price range.
I thought about a hiking staff, but the terrain I would be traversing, even if walking, doesnt call for one. If I would going to carry a melee weapon to deal with animals, I think I would take a baseball bat over a hiking staff for weight to power ration.
