My grail knife finally showed up. SH content

Finally found your FSH! That edge on the HOGFSH (which I really like), I purchased from you is mighty sharp, so you have that down! Enjoy...and Cheers.

Looks like the previous owner worked the edge a bit already.
Profile it the way you like it and beat the snot out of it:)

Yep, they did. So... me not being a very patient person I already sharpened a Ranger RD7? and then the FSH on the WorkSharp. Learning curve isn't too bad and it's definitely a quick and easy way to convex sharpen a big blade. Not sure what the previous owner had going on but with the WS set on the 20 degree mark it did the whole secondary bevel on one side and just the very edge on the other. It's definitely sharp now. And I don't think I'm going to like the Magnum grip, the palm swell digs into my palm uncomfortably when I grip it tight. Is that something that you fix with sandpaper or just send it in to the custom shop for? And my meter has it just under .24 thick right in front of the handle slabs.

Here's some better pics after sharpening.

That was with my EdgePro Apex which do awesome edges but takes quite a bit longer than the WorkSharp I used on this one.

That's an awesome blade Oilman; just got to see the Worksharp in action yesterday; my uncle bought one for the meat-shop blades...I was simply amazed at how quick it was, and especially how it polished, and did such a great job..glad you got one, or both I should say :).

Congrats Bro........Looking Sweet!!!

A little sandpaper can usually knock down the swells...go slow test often its easy to go far quickly....Then beat it like you mean it....:D

You got a color pic of it? ;)

The convex FSH is about the perfect big knife, IMO. Mine is similar having been sent to the shop by a previous owner to get stripped and double cut. I've since had it bead blasted by another maker after I shaved off handle and pommel. This knife really hits the sweet spot. :D

Congrats on a phenomenal knife!

Pics! Sounds good, we need pics of that.

Oilman,

Sandpaper should take care of the thick spots for you. Take off a little at a time and then use the knife for a while to determine if/where additional needs to be sanded down. I've taken quite a bit off mine at the palm swell and intend to take more off soon. It's getting much closer and I'm really pleased with it.

Resinguy,

Ask for pics and you shall receive! I'm fairly certain that I've had this knife longer than any other by now and I don't ever intend to get rid of it. After all the other Busse knives I've owned, this one is "it" for me. I hope Oilman is as happy with his.

I don't have any recent pics, I may try to get some this weekend. These pics are from its first post-mod outing a year and a half ago. :)

Might be a Bill Siegle SAR4?

Edit to add: Googled Siegle SAR4, and this is not it, must be another Siegle model.

No, I've actually had quite a few but never understood them until this year. Now I've got the bug. :-)

A little late but does anyone have any idea which FSH this is? I looked at bussecollector.com and this one doesn't seem to be listed. I micd the blade at just under .24 right in front of the scale and the blade is 8 3/16" from the scale to tip. I'm going to order a sheath for it and want to be able to call it the right thing. :-)
