Cancer and Camel non filters claimed him when i was still making boom boom in my short pants , so i think my grandmother just packed it away with the rest of his things she kept , not to have seen the light of day until she passed and my mother unearthed it while sorting her affairs and gave it to me , this particular tang stamp Western used between 1935 and 1950 , im 63 so he had it for a while , thing is scary sharp , i nicked myself oiling it for storage one day , and i was being careful, real stag grip , im told the colored rings tell the story of the features for any particular knife ,a code if you will

Here are a couple of photos of pages from Harvey Platts book, 'Knife Makers Who Went West', 1978.
First page 151 from the 1950 catalog...

Then page 162 from the 1959-1960 catalog

I only show these because of the L39 and 539, for numbering. The tang stamps are not shown.

they had a old upright organ , when she passed i was helping move it and inside the organ he had 2 packs hidden from her , hilarious , i assume he had hidden them in there from her because when he was diagnosed and told to stop smoking , after a couple decades she had never found them or maybe did and just left them be , i was in my 20's when she went

My dad and grandpa smoked Camels, which means I swiped and smoked a bunch of them in my day, as well.

Very cool knife, and the story, too.
