Well I am getting closer to finishing up my grinder in a box build. I am waiting for my wheels to come in, they should be here sometime this week. Then its just saving up the money to buy my VFD, and making a stand for it. I should be ordering the VFD some time in early January and by then I should have the little room I have been doing the build it cleaned up enough and made fire safe, so I can start learning how to use a real grinder.

Here is what I have right now, I will post more pictures on the weekend after the wheels and belts come it.

Wow, that is nice. I like the look of the rotating platen. How was the build? Did it go together easily? That looks like the best way to get a well made budget grinder.

Can't wait til you start grinding steel. If you are pleased with it then I will probably start buying one in stages as can be afforded. Thanks for showing and keep the pics and updates coming.

Thanks every body, I am a little excited to see what its going to look like when finished. The shinny bolts were easy to do, it just required taking it all apart dropping the washers and masking off the bolt heads and nuts, putting it back together, paint it and take it apart again to put the washers back on and remover the masking tape. I may upgrade the bolts to stainless in time just because I can:o

No I dont intend to go with a horizontal pivot option, I ma how ever working on coming up with a multi position tool rest, just have a few details to work out on it before I try prototyping it.

Why the build? You have a perfectly good 1x30 sitting right there in the pic.

:D

I love the lines on the new grinder. They invoke the lines of vintage organic Italian design in my mind. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

We've got dozens of vfd's at the plant where I work. I wish I could pluck a few!
