Well, I finally finished my No Weld Grinder After procrastinating for a year after getting Tracy's Plans. I used a lot of different steel and aluminum that I already had, so took me awhile to figure out how to make it work. As soon as I started the build I realized these things are so simple. Heck if I can do it anyone can that has a drill press and a metal cutting saw. Solid as a rock and smooth. My tool bars are from some portable scaffolding I scrounged awhile back. They adjust with just a bolt and fit pretty well inside the 2" X 2" Tubing. Aluminum wheels and 3 speed pulleys are from Tracy and motor is a farm store TEF 1 1/2 HP. Motor mounted on a plywood table with a hinge.

Awesome! I've had my plans for a few weeks and haven't started yet. I have yet to get a bandsaw but I hope to have one soon so I can start on one of these. Planning on making any other attachments?

I've made a 4" contact wheel attachment as a test. That's an easy one. I don't do any hollow grinds, just flat and convex. I plan a slack belt attachment and probably a small wheel if I can find some that don't cost $80.00 each. Any ideas?

Murdock,
You can cut the steel with a cutoff saw like I did. Or of course a hand hacksaw.

what was the final cost of the build if you dont mind my asking?

I was very curious about this also. I'm thinking of building a 1x42. I have a little Delta, but it needs some customizing, or just a new grinder build. I find the belt size to be GREAT for handle shaping and sharpening, but the bat out of hell speed is driving me nuts. I want to be able to change speeds, and I want the wheels to be contact wheels.

For me it was just the $150.00 cost of the 1 1/2 HP motor, the 3 wheels and misc. steel from Tracy and about $75.00 more misc. steel, nuts & bolts at the steel yard. 3/4" plywood for base. Probably around $475.00. Depends on how good a scrounger you are. Check Tracy's site for prices. He's got everything you need. You can save a little with Sunray wheels instead of aluminum.

Good to know. Looks really sweet bro!

Thats a sharp looking grinder. I gotta say though when I see all those bolts and straps and think of all the measuring and drilling you must have done I'm damn glad I have a welder :D

great job! I love the changes to use what you had on hand. You have a hell of a grinder for a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks guys. I think it will be a great grinder. Just played a little with it so far. Tracy, if you can use the pics you are welcome to them.

Yep Matt, the toughest part is keeping those metal shavings out of your skin.:D I might try welding one when I get good and use all steel. Mine is a mix of steel and aluminum.

Wolf, great machine and nice build, inventive use of otherwise useless bits. I dig the strut tooling arms, great idea!
