I'm very excited about this. I bought the saw new when I first got to Texas two years ago, and it worked for only one day then suddenly was unable to cut paper, let alone metal. At the time I checked it out and couldn't find anything wrong with it, and so pushed it into a corner and ignored it, thinking I would get to it eventually.
Well yesterday, while cutting a blank out with the Portaband a small piece of steel went into the gears of the Portaband and caused the saw to thump every time the drive wheel turns. Seems like a problem that will ultimately kill that saw, which gave me the desire to revisit the 4 x 6 and see if I could figure out what caused it to stop working.
Long story short, the problem was that when I initially assembled the saw I didn't notice the flat spot on the drive shaft that connects the plastic belt drive wheel to drive gear, so the allen nut that secures the plastic belt drive wasn't holding it in place. DOH! So simple, and yet previously so elusive.
Anyway, it's in service now, and I couldn't be more pleased about it.
