After years of going through knives selling, trading, buying I finally found a knife that I will never give-up. Bradley, Benchmade, many Spyderco, coldsteel..etc are all gone, sold. I've gone through every locking mechanizm from titanium CR style lock bars, AXIS..etc. Titanium grings down on the S30V and in a year was 80% gone.

Then I purchased a spyderco caly 3.5 zdp-189. PERFECT knife! Design, lockback makes it thin, steel is unmatched for my use and the carbon-fiber scales don't hurt. A few swipes on my strop and it's back to shaving sharp...edge lasts forever. I've never been so in love with a knife. Blade is an awesome slicer, nice a thin.

The first knife I purchased was a caly 3, but I prefer a 3.5 inch blade.....full circle...my search is over.

WOOHOO I couldn't be happier with this EDC!

That would be an improvement and used to love disassembling my titanium frame locks cleaning oiling...etc. Now if I think the caly 3.5 dirty I stick it in my ultrasonic cleaner and that makes it new again....but as you said I would like the ability to completely disassemble but it's not a deal breaker as everything else is as good as it gets imo...YMMV.

Thanks 9...couldn't be happier...after 1000's of dollars my search is over.

I do like the look of that, thumbs ups on finding whats "right for you". We are all a little different in that department, and with all the possible choices out there it can be a search.

RDog it took me 3 years. When they recently came out with the caly 3.5 I was excited because at the time they only had the caly 3. Never uses zdp-189 so it was a surprise in it's use over the last 3 months. Love it, love it, love it!

I loved my Caly 3 ZDP. Lost or stolen, alas. But it would have been even better if it didn't have protruding rivets.

Protruding fasteners are also why I don't carry my Wilkins Leafstorm. Impossible to fit denim between bolt heads and clip!

I've found the perfect knife for myself lots of time. ha! I'm glad you found what you really love, but I'm gonna guess you can't give up buying more. ;)

Oh man I'm so sorry you lost the knife. I don't consider $170 knife an easily replaceable knife. Hope you find it or get one back.

More, more more....I think it's a sickness lol. What is your perfect knife?

I like zdp 189 however the steel can be brittle. You need to be more careful with it compared to others. But it will keep its razor edge far longer than than all the others.

You speak the truth. I had a small chip in the blade (tiny but drove me crazy) I will not tolerate an imperfect edge. I haven't had an issue for two months...hit no staples or metal...etc and you will not chip the zdp. My EDC knife is used for food, opening boxes, mail, cardboard...edc. It's the perfect knife for me and I don't need to resharpen loosing steel every week. I don't use it for chopping wood or other uses not designed for the knife.

I must admit I love the AXIS lock....best in the market imo. But I love the thin profile of the Caly 3.5 zdp.

The 3.5 CF is one of my favorites too. The combination of the Ergos, CF, steel, size, pocket clip, and the blade shape make this a winner. Very underrated 3.5 inch folder, especially with all this Para 2 rush going on lately. The good news is you can get them new for great prices if you look around.

The ffg Endura with a zdp189 blade is great knife that is often overlooked .Frn handles but screw construction. Great price for a fine knife.

I know the endura is a staple of the spyderco line but I don't prefer FRN scaled. I bought several FRN's and just didn't like the feel.
