Hi Guy's,
First off I would like to say that my Grinders are no way near as good as store bought grinders. Mine is basic, it is made to move a belt on wheels.
The grinder with the orange wheel was made in 2002. The other one with the multi wheel was made around 2006. The Blue frame was pulled from a scrap bin and welded back together. The one on the left's first motor was a pool motor. It burnt up after 8 years.
I made the grinders out of necessity not having the spare cash but having access to scrap materials. This is not for everyone but it worked for me.

Practice And Patients are just as important in making knives as a Good Grinder.

PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS

Nicely done David. I can see you put a lot of thought, work and time into building them.

It is so true that it doesn't take a fancy grinder to make good knives. What it does take is lots of practice with it!

Thanks for sharing. I love seeing designs that are personal like yours. It inspires me to think outside the box.

Take care

Love the small wheel on the swivel arm. I have to build one of those eventually.
Thanks for taking the time to share with us David.

I like the swivel arm, too. Looks quite handy. I like that you drove the one with a Lovejoy coupler, too! Don't see that too much on knife grinders. Way to be resourceful, it sure has not hurt your knifemaking any.

Thank You Guy's,
I also have a 1/4" diameter roller with needle bearings. + back up 1/2" rollers. These get grit into them and need to be clean out or replaced. Just a new thought, I should think about some sort of seal. I will have to work on that
When making the grinders if I found parts that worked I would get them all and save some for later.
I have at least 10 more pillow block bearings and assorted rollers ready to go.
No body has asked me about the adjustable wrench on the head of the one machine. I bump the wrench for tracking.
The tracking on the 3 wheel design is the wheel with the finger knob. as you Twist the knob there is a cam that changes the wheels angle.
Feel Free to ask Question.
Dave
