So I was thinking it would be a fun idea to start buying a lot of the less talked about more looked down on budget knives and carry them around for a few weeks and make youtube videos on initial impressions out of box and then make a review on the knife how it worked for its low price point if it's worth it for a budget blade and what might need to be done to it in order to make it work up to standards. When I'm done trade them with others who think they might like it and review whatever they trade or have some give always or anything else people would think of.

Before anyone says it I don't want to try to make money off of youtube just do it to share knowledge and experience with those who are interested in the topic.

Would this be something that would be supported by you guys and the forums or not a good idea.

If you put together good reviews on YouTube, I'm sure a lot of us here will watch them. The budget knife theme is a good place to start, it will allow you to get a nice bunch of "test subjects" for your videos without going broke.

Personally, I don't think it's wrong if you manage to make some cash off of YouTube, as long as the information is good.

I like the idea, what is the maximum price point you were thinking of?
Not really sure tbh. It'll carry depending on what I can get my first starting knives will prob be real cheap but then work my way up to nicer budget things.
I was looking at it as a fun hobby that will help give me that little extra push at work to help find fun, because we all work for our family and to pay our bills but I think we get that extra push to work extra to do the things we have fun with and enjoy.

I see a lot of people come on here and ask for low budget first knife options and I was one of those people so I think it would be nice for them to have a resource right here and to see a bunch of things and how they stack up to each other. Like personally some of my starter knives the Gerber eZ our and Gerber 06 and the 06 is junk and 50$ and the eZ out is 20 and actually a good beater work knife.

I like the idea personally, just depends on what your max price is on a "budget knife". We all have had one of those at one time or another, I still have some too and enjoy them especially budget Kershaws. My personal tastes have kind of outgrown most budget knives however so I would not really be buying these budget knives, but it would be good for non knife people as well. (I may not have a ton of money, but I have patience to save up for quality)

Yea I actually have a jar off to the side that I put money in that I'm saving up for. I would do nice knives when I got them the whole budget thing would to me be fun that I get to use them and try them and the ones I think are good I could give back to the community for the help that they have given me and the hospitality I've been shown. Most people wouldn't be interested in most of the budget stuff but they could use the video as a reference when helping new members and maybe some of the nicer stuff I have would be enjoyed by all. I would also do gear and accessories like sharpeners polishes and other things.

I suspect that you might lose a little bit on each trade, and soon you'll be adding money in each time.
That is what happens on most of my sales/trades. The price of a fun hobby, I guess.

I'd be more than willing to toss my 2 cents in, I've owned more than my share of knives where I only had 25 bucks to spend

I pretty much only buy knives that are $30 or less, and I make video reviews on them. Some require mods, some don't. I like your idea; it sounds like you are planning on using the knife before making the video, which is what the majority of reviewers don't do on Youtube. I don't understand how someone can unbox a knife, babble about it for 10 minutes, and call it a review. There is definitely a shortage of substantive video reviews, so I encourage you to make more.

I want to make a part 1. How it feels out the box the appearances weight and feeling in hand. Initial impresisions. Then a part 2. I've carried it for a few weeks how it held its edge how it resharpens carries how it's constructed and all that.

Even if I "lost" money trading or giving stuff away I would feel like I lost. I got to use something different witch is always fun it's more like I rented it then lost money. And if I can give it away and make someone happy and give them a helpful tool that could even save a life then there is no loss IMHO.

Sounds good. Here is my unsolicited advice: shoot the Part I (initial impressions) and hang onto the footage until you shoot Part II. Make it all one video. There are plenty of "first impression" videos out there, and I do not find them very useful.

Alright thanks. I mean most peoples review is just a first impression anymore anyway. Maybe I'll make a vid with like options and have people tell me what they would wanna see first.

I like the idea. Especially the 2 part idea where we get to hear how they held up, resharpened, ect. I sharpen a lot of co-worker's knives & get to handle some truly lousy folders that aren't holding up at all & always thought doing videos on them would be funny. I've also read some impressive things about some of the Chinese folders from brands like Navy, Ganzo & Enlan that sell at gas station knife prices. I say go for it.

I prefer reading about knives and looking at pictures here. I'm not much for you tube and tend to avoid things on it. Why talk about doing something on you tube here? Promoting your channel is about the only reason I can think of.

Sorry, not interested in you tube videos but I'd love to see reviews here, the correct place for them.

Thanks man I'm looking into some stuff to try as we speak.

I like that. It is what I do. I have changed a bit, however, and I don't give-away indiscriminately to just anyone. There are a few guys here (and anywhere) who are oinkers, and I'd advise you to be careful. It will dampen your enthusiasm if you find out you've been had.
I enjoy giving away folders and fixed blades that I have no need for, but now I limit it to deployed military and "young" law-enforcement officers who really have a "need." THAT gives me joy.

Thanks for the advice man.

I prefer reading about knives.... I'm not much for you tube

The biggest problem I've seen on youtube is that a video will start with a knife laying on the table and it will be 5 minutes into the video of nothing but boring talk before the guy even picks up the knife to do something with it. My other complaint is that the videos are often way out of focus when they want to show you something about the knife itself. I do look at youtube sometimes but I find more videos that are frustrating than ones that are informative.
