I haven't found it yet, that's for sure. Imagine the civilian Camelbak MULE/Chaos, minus the hydration bladder, add two side pockets to fit the 32 oz. Nalgene bottle - that's all I ask for. Approx. 500 cu. inches of capacity. In other words, a very compact backpack to fit the bare essentials and would allow the carry of two .32 oz. Nalgene bottles.

Has anybody here ever seen a backpack like that? I've looked everywhere.

Thank you!

Hey Sufler, here's some pics of the pygmy next to the mystery ranch dragon slayer.

The dragons slayer is about 2300 cubes.

If you want you can buy my pygmy for really cheap. I do live in the Netherlands though.

Maybe this??? >>> Maxpedition Sitka Gearslinger - one 32 oz Nalgene, capacity for a 100 ounce reservoir, and ~600 cubic inches of internal space. If you don't want to use a reservoir, you can always molle on another Nalgene carrier...

+1 for the Osprey mention.
I have a Crescent 85 (waaaay bigger than what you want) and I'm totally satisfied with the quality of their stuff.
I've packed for almost 30 years and tried dozens of 'top quality' packs. Osprey won me over.
Anyway, I broke a part (my bad, not theirs) and their customer service sent me a replacement with no questions asked.
They want happy customers and will go the extra mile.
Okay... I'm done now...

Sounds like you want a Mountainsmith Tour, but I thought you already had one. The Pygmy Falcon is a lot bigger, and neither as stable or comfortable.
btw, 1400ci for the Pygmy Falcon.

Try the Mountain Hardware Riff. Its 900ci with two bottle holders on the side. They are on sale at various places.

500 cu inches is pretty small even with the addition of two Nalgene water bottle pockets. You're really looking at a lumbar type pack. I recently picked up an Ultra Day from Badlands and it's a small, light pack (about 1800 cu inches) and will hold two water bottles within the two side pockets...another good option. Even my Kifaru Scout set up as a pack with two external water bottle pouches added is still 1300 cu inches. The Pygmy Falcon II is another pack option, but even that is over 1000 cu inches.

Other than the two water bottles, what else do you plan on packing? I would look for a quality lumbar pack that have optional shoulder straps, that's about the only way to keep in small with two water bottle pouches.

If this guy had bottle pockets, it looks like it would fit the bill perfectly. I like the 10 oz weight of the thing.

We just did a three-peak hike on Sunday with out Philmont-bound Scouts, several of whom carried two liters on hip belts. The hip belt wearers mentioned that 4 lbs of water was causing them some discomfort with the belt, no one with a shoulder pack had any problems.

Yup, that's right. I went from a Tour to the Day. Tour had great cargo space, but side pockets were too small for my 32 oz. bottles. Day had a lot of space and great 32 oz. pockets but it was wide and at that point I thought to myself: "Well, if it feels like this I might as well get a backpack."

So, yeah, back and forth trying to find the right pack.

:D:thumbup:

on a very small pack, two 32 oz bottles on the outside might be a bit much to ask- the reason that most of the small packs utilize a bladder instead

if you do find a pack you like (that doesn't come w/ pockets), you might consider getting someone to sew pockets on the side- the stretchy lycra material used by many of the pack makers is available online

Osprey Daylite. My go to small pack of choice. Holds 2 bottles, and a ton of gear. Ill post pics of mine in a few hours when I get home from this nightmare of a shift on the ambulance. Trust me. Its a great bag, and carrys a good load very well. I use mine for mountain biking with a 100oz bladder, and a bunch of gear all the time. Has a removable waistbelt too. I have the MULE, and this is what you need bro.

Osprey Manta -- pull out the hydration bladder when you don't want to use it. The smallest size has more capacity than you want but there are straps to compress the pack. I have the Manta 25 and so far am enjoying it, especially the internal stays which the Talon Series don't have. I have the Talon 22, like it a lot but sometimes would like some rigidity.
I like having pockets on the belt too.

I've been on this search for awhile too. I just picked up a Deuter ACT Trail 32 Pack
It feels perfect, but the trail will tell. Also had some great reviews on many online websites and through youtube.com

Any old pack with a GOOD FRAME will do. You have to try them on. My Cabelas mail-order, fits great, but I think I was lucky a bit.
