My Impressions of Strider

I've had great experiences with the folks at Strider, I have 3 (an AR, SNG, and DB-L, and always have my eye out for more (another SNG, an SA/SA-L, and an MT)

If the quality was there, and I liked the designs, I might just think of those Chinese folks making the knives. ;)

The owners of many companies rather suck as human beings, but I buy the products I want or need regardless.
Is it nice when the owner is awesome, cool, and an example to all?
Of course it is...but it's awesome mainly because so many others suck.
We just generally don't hear about the various ways in which they suck, so people don't get upset by it.

But what if I don't want their product because their owner sucks? Should I buy it anyway for the sake of the employees?

For the sake of clarity, if you like Strider knives I think you should buy Strider knives, but I also don't think there's any invalid reason NOT to buy a $400+ knife.

Nope, buy what you want.
As we live in a society where all but the most impoverished have more than they need, you get to be picky, even about things others might not care about.

Some folks go on Internet Crusades about it though, and they are the ones who should think through such things as others who are employed.

Most people do though.

There's also the question of his employees; they're just people going to a job to support their families.
Should they be penalized because you don't like the owner?
Think real hard on that one.

So, if I hate olives I should buy them, and not penalize the people in the olive industry? 'kay.

People. If you have never had an olive...dont bother. They taste like crap.

So, everyone who has ever come on here with a negative opinion about a knife or knife brand or knife maker is on a crusade and should shut up, correct?

What about the folks who say "Brand X is the best?" Aren't they hurting the competition and the people who work for them also?

And what about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly? Its full of negative posts about retailers full of employees who have nothing to do with the practices of management.

IMHO, it is perfectly fine and understandable for folks not to buy the knives because of the bad owner of the company, no matter how good the knives are.

I never had any problems with my SnG's and I had 4 of them. I'm down to one and it's a keeper.

I neither said nor implied either of those things, and you very well know it.
I will leave it at that, as you know exactly what I was getting at.

We all have things that make us not buy knives...for me it's racist owners (yep, you can call me hypocritical...but I called me it first :D ).

I don't go on about which owners of which companies are racists whose products I won't buy though...although just now I continued to not buy any from one of them.
I also didn't buy any from them last week, or last month, or last year.

If I posted about that on an ongoing basis though, you'd all quite rightly tell me to get a life. ;)

As for the original topic...
My impressions of Strider are:
-The folders are good
-The fixed blades seem overpriced
-The owner seems like someone I wouldn't hang out with
-Contacting the company is a bit more annoying than with others

IMO for the OP

Pro

-Great Heat treat and many steels.
-Solid as a rock and really a great design. Boy do they take a beating.

Con

-Prices went up
-Customer service is sub par for those that choose to use it
-Short life span of lock bar , I have never seen locks wear out so fast besides Emerson liner locks. That said rock solid along the way, but stick and wear issues all too common. Requiring lock bar adjustments and what not.
I like them and I am sure some day I may own another second hand.

My first impression of strider was with an SMF. And the thumb stud fell out on the first week lol. I knurled the inside and pressed it back in, Never had an issue.
The next two were flawless and even the first one was after the repair.

But dang, the steel is good stuff.

My next would either be an SJ-75 or SMF.

I carry CPM 154 on my current EDC and it reminds me how that is also my favorite from Strider.

I have never noticed any excessive lock wear, mine have always set and stay there-Are you possibly doing something that would cause this(wrist filipping, Kniferbating)?

I found mine wore across the tang really quickly till they reached the spot they were to settle at.
It was disconcerting at first, though, because it looked like the lock would wear out really fast.

A bunch of years later, and they're still at the point they settled at.

I'll be honest with you and say that perhaps a lot of the reason I am so enthuzed with Strider is that I have never paid retail! Not even once!

I've scored some seriously good deals on the exchange for knives that have been essentially NIB.

I'd love to hear what you were doing that caused the lock bar to fail? I haven't heard much of that issue personally but it seems understandable being that there is no insert. From what I've understood, though, the newer generations have a carbidized lock face.

Thanks for sharing!

Here's my impression, "Hi, I'm Mick Strider, I'm a bad ass special forces knife maker guy. Buy my knives".
