I love getting the email or call that a knife I ordered is ready. I got one of those today from Bret Dowell. I had ordered a dog leg with ironwood and a fluted bolster. I think it came out quite nice and I'm excited to get this one in my pocket. These are pictures Bret sent me. I'll put some of my own (and some specs) when I get it.

That's a nice knife Jason congrats. Brett is coming along in his slipjoint making very well.. I have a pet peeve about the tangs not fitting the frame (bolsters) maybe be a reason I don't understand for this on your knife... Still a very handsome knife..

Thank you. I see what you mean. To be honest, I've never looked for that. Is it purely aesthetic or is there a functional drawback?

I think what we have here is a sunk joint...that might explain the small looking tang.

Very Nice.. Gotta like that long swedge and Ironwood
Looks like its going to be a very comfortable knife too...

I don't know what a sunk joint is, but I think that is an awesome knife. Congrats!

panchO See how, when closed, the back square edge of the blade folds under the bolster & is covered by it ?

Thats a sunk joint & pocket friendly

Thanks Kerry, I understand the knife has a sunk joint, but does the blade tang really have to be that narrow, to still be sunk? Maybe I don't under stand pivot placements...

As said still a nice knife, and not trying to be critical...

Yes, it does. From the top of the back spring to the pivot doesn't change on a "normal" or "sunk" joint knife. Hiding the back square/run up is a function of the depth of the handle from the pivot down. That's the tradeoff on a sunk joint...the tang gets dwarfed a bit.

It's a matter of aesthetics and I don't think it detracts from a knife as long as we understand what's going on there. I think the fit and finish on this knife is really excellent.:thumbup:
