Inspired by KGD, Rotte and others, here and in W&SS, here is my take on the necker sheath kit concept.

Pics are a little blurry, twas getting dark out.

Here is is next to it's companion, an altoids tin PSK.
The lanyard is long, and has a rubber grommet in the middle, so you can wear it merc-harness style for under-arm carry.
I wore it over my shirt all afternoon, comfortable, fast draw.

You can also double it over and wear it as a traditional necker. A cord lock allows adjustability, or possibly reconfiguration to belt carry.

Sorry, the pics a bit over-exposed on some items.

The sheath is kydex from Shotgunner11.
Ferro/Mag rod, Photon Freedom II, 2 alcohol swabs (you can light these with a spark), Baggy; two birthday candles, two twists of wax impregnated jute. Cord end whistle.

Good one with the alcohol swabs they have a tonne of uses from cleaning your eyeglasses, camera lens, wounds and fire.

Nice! I like Shotty's sheath. I think this knife really hits it's stride in this configuration.

I like it - been focusing on sorting my RC4 rig once its done I'm onto one of these I realy like the merc-harness idea

I've got a watchband compass I need to dig out and put on the paracord like Rotte did.

A plastic bag and a water purification tablet might be nice too...
But Then I'd probably want to take something else off. With a rig like this it kinda defeats the purpose if you cram too much on.

I think its a fancy way of saying shoulder rig. Many ways to do it, easiest being a piece of paracord in a figure 8 config. The loops go thru your arms and accross your back and the knife dangles under your arm.

Actually Mercharness is a product name, it isn't an abbreviation for mercenary, at least not directly.

Basicaly you have a long lenght of cord in a loop, pinched together in the middle to make a figure-eight. You put it on as if the loops were the arm holes of a vest. There is a loop around each shoulder, and they meet in an X pattern between your shoulder blades. The knife hangs down under one arm. Set up right under a shirt it's very concealed. Even if you don't care about that, it doesn't bounce around the way a neck knife can.

Very good idea, but the price most places want for it is silly, since you get about 8 feet of paracord and a 6 rubber washers. It should cost about 2 dollars, not 10

get 2mm bungee and it keeps close to the body and has a little give
2mm bungee also makes a great OSS string holster

very nice set up... i have put together something similar... i need to get some piics up soon....

Shotgunners sheath's rock..

Nice fire kit, do you use the cutting edge to scrape the mag or do you use the spine?

Minor update.

Since my Izula has scales now I had to inlet the sheath Shottgunner gave me to allow them.

I took out most of the tinder to keep the max thickness the same as the scales.

I also shaved down the edges a bit, which is why the sides look a bit rough.

I can give the mercharness a big tick as a very comfortable and concealable way to carry a knife. I have both an Izula and a RC3mil set up on a couple. George at ModernCombativeSystems is a very good guy to deal with and he uses the names Mercharness and Mercop in his business. I am going to get one of Shotgunner's pancake sheaths for the Izula and I reckon it will be a real nice set-up.

Nice little set up. I agree with Tony that adding a small sharpening rod or stone could really help.

Are there any "touch-up" stones or ceramic rods that can be keyring mounted or handled like a firesteel?

Nice! I so need to remember to pick up an inner tube at wally world. I want to do something like this with my Izula, plus I want to build a similar kit around my Fallkniven A-1 too.

I think with some epoxy, a block of wood or micarta and a drill you could put a handle on pretty much any ceramic rod.

Cool - I wasn't sure if there was anything commercially available or recommended - TONS of small honing stones that fit into small pouches, but that's not really what I was looking for... more like something to pair with a firesteel on a sheath. Something to tinker around with then, I suppose.
