My jackknife is not a switchblade!

Like I was saying, in public for me it is not much of a bother to bring attention to a knife's utility no matter what type of folder I am using rather than to bring attention to the knife itself and react with as much annoyance in my voice as I can muster when someone makes an uneducated comment. I would rather have the chance to win over a new convert than fuel his or her fear of an object. YMMV.

Based on your own statement that this is your standard reply to the uneducated, you don't understand at all.

Based on where we were, if he was still going to act ignorant about it, I doubt any effort on my part could make him change his mind. That's like a hybrid owner who goes to the dragstrip to bash the muscle cars. It's my standard reply to those who choose to be ignorant. He could have asked me something like "do you find that people are uncomfortable when you open that knife?", and I would have a civil reply that might even turn into a friendly chat. But to come right out and determine that I would use the knife primarily as a weapon, makes him the pretentious one because he's already made up his mind about what type of person I am before getting to know me.

And to Bastid, I apologize for my use of profanity in my earlier post. I didn't mean to cause a hassle. Sorry about that.

No problem. I get wound up over the fools too. Just have found over the years that it does not do any good to antagonize them or say or do anything that confirms their foolish thoughts. I get much more joy on the occasions when I convince them that carrying my knife does not mean bad intentions go with it.
