My journey ends...and sending back a Sebenza....

Custom scales do make all the difference on a mini grip. Up grading to G10 or Micarta is a big improvement over the plastic. Also going for a ritter blade is a nice upgrade... especially in M4 if you can get one.

And for the ladies...

custom scales...that's something to think about...
I like the pink Hello Kitty! Is there a matching black Dear Daniel to go with it? haha!

For me it's the Benchmade 707 Sequel. Been EDCing it for a year now and it blows all my other knives away. Never had a Griptilian or Mini Grip but looking into it though... 707 Sequel=awesome for EDC

haha, not yet, maybe if my girlfriend decides she wants another knife, I'll make another set for her.

"Your hand makes the final decision" So true!

I live in Hong Kong and the knife selections are really limited, 99.9% of the time I have to rely on the information and reviews online. What happened with the small Sebenza was, as I said it felt "tip heavy"...but the thing that bothered me was that I could not keep my thumb on the thumb-stud for the whole deployment arc. That is not something any review can tell you.

On a happier note, I ordered a set of Wilkins G10 Orange grip for 105Euros shipped! Can't wait!

I had a similar experience with my small Sebbie. No one will ever question it's simple beauty, top notch quality and overall feel of a fine piece of craftsmanship but I couldn't get totally comfortable with the thumb studs and Ti slabs. While it operated like butter it is more of a very intentional opening. I also freaked every time I put it down while working and got further than 3 feet from it! Still, anyone who can afford a Seb owes it to their self to try one.

I totally hate when that happens, when all the research in the world, doesn't live up to reality. Goes to show sometimes less is more! I did this with countless things paintball markers, automatic watches etc...etc...lol.

Since you're in HK, I'd suggest trying various Sanrenmus or Enlans. They are not as nice as a BM or Spyderco, but you'll get to try out many designs that are quite well made, without going broke. This way, once you find what you like most, perhaps you can make a better decision (i.e. what handle format is suitable, etc.).

My favorite would be Enlan EL08 for big knife and smaller Sanrenmu 763 (really feel good in my hand, am Asian, 5.5 feet tall only, so consider me small for Caucasian standard).

Shipping from Mainland China to HK should be very fast for you! Checkout the Sanrenmu thread on Knife Testing and Review subforum. Lot's of comment and experience sharing there.

One more tips: Spyderco generally fits the hand better, in my experience ;)

I'm surprised no one mentiones Spyderco. They have some fine knives, comfortable to use, the very most of them ambidextrous and what I have right now in mind for a smaller hand is the Chapparal.

707 and 940 are my favorite BMs for everyday use.

Rather than try to find that end all knife, which is impossible anyway, my tastes change from day to day, week to week, and month to month. Sometimes I get in a Spyderco mood and carry my Spydies for a week or so. Then I'll go back to my Benchmades. Then I'll carry one of my many Kershaw leeks for a while, then maybe my Bradly Alias I, then my small seb.... they all go through the cycle. Each time I think "yeah this is my favorite knife" but then I'll look at my collection and say "ooo I havent carried this in a while", and some time later "no this is my favorite knife"!

I'll never be happy with just one. My bank account isn't happy either.

I had a similar situation also. Ask anyone, the Sebenza is the be-all end-all answer to every knife question. So after several years I had to try it out for myself, twice even, a Large Regular through a pass-around and later a Large 21 purchase and resell. They just doesn't fit me, regardless of how high quality it is, or the materials produced of. And I really wanted it to, it is super knife.

It is really quite freeing knowing that the "best of the best" knife does or does not work for you for whatever reason.

I have found the knife that does though, the G-10 FFG Endura 4.

Don´t forget the Benchmade mini Presidio, available in M4 steel. I realise that there are difference of opinion when it comes to the aluminium scales but I really like them, gives the knife a more "quality" feel than the normal mini grip scales.
