Well, it finally came in. After 5 years of lusting after this machine, I was finally able to get my hands on one. I didn't have much time to play tonight as I have some orders to finish, but hopefully it will be running by New Years.

Here's how it all came in:

This is the stand I bought (HF cheapie which I topped with a 24x24, 3/4" board:

Attachment goodness (I need another arm and another small wheel):

A mock up:

And with the 2hp motor mocked up:

The stand will end up being about 4-6" short of where I'd like it to be. I'm going to buy some wood blocks to use as risers. I've still got to wire up the motor, VFD, and the controls, complete the clean box, and paint the grinder, and then it's off to the races. I'll post more pictures when I get it done.

HOORAY!!!! :D :D :D

I'm glad that grinder found a happy, new home Nathan!!! :D

I got my stuff from Rob today too (we haven't been getting deliveries with the weather) but the FedEx man made it! :)

I'm stoked for you Nathan... I know and love that feeling you've got right now!

Can't wait to see you making dust with that puppy! :D

Congrats!! That's an awesome piece of machinery!

I like the tool stand too. I was going to build one, but I might just pick that one up.

You hit a home run with that one. You'll be lovin' it before long. Many folks paint them right away. Might consider that unless the environment its in is dry. Its a great machine. No doubt about that. I sure like mine! Congrats.

Your going to love it. KMGs are great. On the tool arm, I went down to the steel yard and bought a piece of 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 square stock for about $60 that I was long enough to make about 6 arms from. I had to clean the up with the flat face of a 7 1/2" grinder for them to slid in smoothly and drill and tap them. It was a bit of work but I have 2 grinders and now have a good selection of tools

Now that's a Christmas present for sure!!
I'll hook up with you soon. I'll try not to drool on it too much.:D

Yeah yeah yeah..... everyone buys a KMG.... yeah yeah yeah surprised y'all don't start some sort of Rob Frink cult or something.....

:p :p :p

Looks awesome and just in time. Just don't make puppy dust like Nick suggested.

Good for you Nathan! Someday I will be in your shoes grinder wise! Can't wait to hear how it grinds for you. Bet it makes real pretty grinds!

Man I'm jealous. Now all your grinds will be perfectly straight, all your plunges will be smooth and all your shoulders and grinds will be at the proper angles and line up from front to back and side to side. The best of it is you'll never have to by belts again because they never wear out on a KMG. O.K., call it sour grapes, but I'm JEALOUS!!!

I have never used a Burr king or a Bader, but my KMG will definately outlive me and my son. The thing is built like a tank. I might just join the Rob Frink cult if the benefits are right. Do they offer dental?

Congrats! you will love it  let a good coat of rust built up before you paint it..,its almost like getting a new grinder and the excitement starts all over again :)

Well, too late for the rust to build. I rustoleum'd it in a dark gray hammered finish last night and it's drying right now. I also chopped up some lumber to make risers for the base plate to bring it up to where I need it. I've got to get some large wood screws to secure the base plate, and then I'll get it all bolted together. I also lack a few pieces to be able to build the clean box for the controler, so it may be a couple of weeks before it's running :(.

I will tell you this, if I enjoy just looking at this thing this much, I can't imagine how much fun it will be to grind (metal ;) ) on it!

im rust browning mine out
and yes its a dream to grind on (1.5hp VS old school platen)

i want another one

Dangit Nathan... I am intensely jealous. The weather here in the northwest has been giving Fedex fits. According to their tracking site, mine was supposed to be delivered on the 18th... then the 19th... then the 21st... then the 22nd.... 23rd... 24th... Wife, kids and I are flying out to Georgia for the holidays (if the weather lets us). We won't be back until Jan 13th. I had to call Fedex and tell them to hold the package until Jan 14th so I can be here to sign for it. I hate the "delayed" part of "delayed-gratification".

Congratulations Nathan on the KMG, I really think I hate you. :) Not really, Merry Christmas.
