You've got to take a look at the culture we (humans) live in.
Were impulsive by nature, some more than others, but that is a discussion for another place.
I feel this obsession you speak of, yet I always seek what I want in a blade, not the current hype of others. Sure, it influences my decision, sometimes heavily, but when the fad isn't flowing your way, be the one to pass on that blade for a reason that is a value to you in what you seek in a blade.
There is no perfect blade. This forum and our knife collections would not exist if this wasn't true.
I am now 23, and my knife passion comes and goes, I can remember two separate periods of time where my knife collection peaked before this, as well as times in between both where my collection dwindled to just one user that was carried only half the time specifically for work or none at all when my first childhood peak was stashed in a shoe box somewhere I didnt even know for a long time.
Its back now more than ever...but a cease fire will come sooner than later. I downright tell everyone im a collector now because its not about it being new, but rather it having one feature or another that interests me enough to pick it up.
Dangerously had a great point that I am going to take to heart as well, I wish to become an amazing freehand sharpener, to do this I'll need more dull blades and that means more blade activity
I notice you joined not long ago, was that only to post on the forum in anonymity, or did you actually just join?
I myself have just joined and have never participated in a forum since I wasbaby hacking kyoceras to get WAP internet on a flip phone in 7th grade
I find a comfortable variety of people here, there are some that are more troll-ish than others but it most often leads to broken down and detailed arguments and discussions that can be enjoyable since you can relate well to many parties in the knife community.
If you are formerly a member disregard all that.
But be safe knowing that if your knife hobby does actually dwindle...
That it will come back with FIRE one day
