My Laguiole os here..

T12. Steel developed by Forge de Laguiole together with the French steel maker Bonpertuis. Little information available, but a stainless steel similar to 12C27.

Thanks for the information. Scrolling back to Jimmy's pictures and taking a closer look, it does look pretty robust. I like the way the tang portion is wider and stays wide for the first 1/2 inch or so up to the hip. That must result in a stiffer blade and one that can take some work. Don't let the file work fool you, eh?

If anyone is interested in catching a glimpse of how they make these at 'Forge De Laguiole', just put their company name in your search engine or youtube it... and check out a video or two put out by the firm. One of the videos shows them doing the hydraulic hammer forging of their blades... shows them cutting, shaping of handles, and things like chiseling and filing the designs into the back springs and such. I was thinking more modern, like Case knives.... No way..... think GEC, that is more the old school pride they do in making these things.... very impressive, indeed! :-)

They have about 90 employees total.... but that is not just in the production... that is in total employees. So, the firm is nowhere the huge factory one would think... these knives are still made very much old school by today's standards. If I seem a little enthusiastic... Well, yes, I am impressed! :-)
