After seeing BryFry's Laredo I decided to start my own. The first thing I have done is a patina. I started with an overnight bath in mustard, then a vinegar bath the next day. On a side note, I know there is a lot of CS bashing on here but the Laredo gets SUPER sharp! So i leave it up to you all what should I do next? photo (2).jpgphoto.jpgphoto (3).jpg

Ever thought of Parkerizing it instead of a patina? A dark blade would look wicked. I would also strip and stain the handle to compliment the dark blade.

Looks pretty cool so far!

What do you think of the handle? I thought it was kinda slick, and the edges felt a bit sharp, so I sanded and rounded mine. Sanding them much will turn them a pinkish color, so you definately will want to restain if you go that rout.

Yes Bry it is very slick. I intend on rounding it out some, my brother is a wood working genius, I know it's not real wood, but I plan on letting him take a look at it and see how he can shape it up. I would like it to have a mild stag horn, drop back, shape to it if we can do it.

I'd say that sucker needs a new handle to go with the patina. The standard handle and guard are way too shiny and neat for the antiqued look that the patina provides. Maybe real ironwood in place of the faux-cocobolo...even Stag or something if you really want to go nuts. A stag handle would be sex on toast for that knife. Just my humble opinion.

I agree Dorito I would love a stag handle. The hard part is finding someone that can do a good job on it at a somewhat reasonable price. Thanks Reeek but I can't take any original credit I am totally ripping off BryFry.

Just sanded the handle and getting ready to stain it darker. I am also gonna "age" the guard to match the bladebas well.
