Ok, think we have this figured out now, thank you guys for the help. Hi all! Here is the latest out of my shop- Bird and Trout made from deferentially heat treated 15n20 and super premium maple for the handle. This also has a hidden lanyard loop- thank you to Shane Alexander for explaining how to do that to me! This knife was in the live auction at our local Friends of the NRA Banquet in Redding, California last night- started a bit of a bidding war and had fun!
Comments and Questions welcome- Id love to hear what you guys think!

Very nice. Thanks for supporting the NRA.
How did you bring out the figure in the curly maple and how did you bring out the temper line in the blade?

Really nice knife. The finishes on the blade and handle both look fantastic. Good job on the hidden lanyard too.

Hi Tom! The blade is clay quenched. I then do my final grinding and hand sand out to 1500. Then it's a long process of several etching and polishing cycles to get the hammon to show like that. I etch in ferric Chloride. I sanded the maple to 1500- and did multiple coats of an old gunsmiths stain that a muzzleloader making place sells, I can get you the name of it if you like. Then I use Teak oil to finish.

Thank you very much John- I really appreciate it!

Nic, Great job on the knife, really like the handle too!

Was the stain you used on the handle called "Aquafortis"? I've used it before and it makes for a nice finish as well.

I think I like it!

No- it's an alcohol based stain actually- I wanted the aqua fortis look- without the pain in the butt process of it- so found a stain that produced the result I wanted!

Looks fantastic. Blade shape and finish is great, but the wood truly sets it off. The stain is similar in appearance to Fiebings Mahogany Leather dye.

Thank you! How did you make the picture larger- I'm feeling like an idiot trying to figure the new picture thing out.
I clicked on your picture and right clicked when it took me to your pic. "Copy image address" and used the icon
beside the smiley face up there and pasted it.

I would like to see how this is done as well... got a link?

Ok, thank you for the education!
I don't, but I am making a couple of these knives right now and can post a thread on how I do it if you would like. I originally learned from seeing a thread on here (I forget how old it was, S.Alexander pointed it out to me) and have sort of developed my own method from there.

I would love to see it done, so, yes. Please.
