Hello Dambar:

I received your last email and many thanks.

Please pass this message on to everybody.

We understand the situation very well. Our main concern is that you keep yourselves out of harm's way. Be careful and do not do anything that puts you at risk. The khukuris are secondary to safety of family, friends and the workers at BirGorkha. Open the shop when it is safe for all to do so and ship khukuris by any means you see fit when it is safe to do so. Do not put yourself or anybody else at risk to make or ship khukuris.

I listen to Radio Nepal, read news on Nepalnews.com, and check BBC every day so I keep up pretty well on matters in Nepal.

It is an uncertain situation but I believe if the USA gets involved things will get much better. We have a few Special Operations people there now and I think we will be sending more along with a good deal of money and supplies. I think the UK and India may get involved, too. Nepal and its people may be better off than ever before so good can come from bad.

You and everybody associated with BirGorkha and Himalayan Importst must do your best. It is important that people have work and the khukuris we sell here helps employ many people in Nepal. This gives them money for food and shelter and in a poor country that is a blessing as you well know. We all get good karma for this effort. However, we must maintain our fine quality and give the best service we can under present conditions. Quality and service are the things which have let us succeed. We must maintain these high standards or we will lose everything we all have worked so hard to attain. Be sure to impress this upon the kamis and sarkis. Tell them if they do not let me down I will not let them down and that is a promise from Bena.

Yangdu and I pray daily for all of you and so do many of our customers. You have strong support from us and the Himalayan Imports family here in the USA. If you must move BirGorkha to another location, even to Darjeeling or Sikkim, we will do all we can here to help you with the relocation. If there are a couple of months when you cannot supply khukuris due to relocation we will understand.

The main thing is to keep yourself safe and as many others as you can keep safe. The second thing is to try to continue to supply work and assistance for as many as you can.

Thank you for staying in touch during these difficult times.

Blessings to one and all,

Bena & Didi

This is good. The safety of the employees before profit. Will the kamis and their families have enough food because of the strike?

I've heard that the situation is Nepal is worsening very rapibly. How bad is it really?

Although I'm not really religious, deep down inside I'll pray for them and their families, as well as all the nepalese people.

It's good that someone still cares for their employees and puts them before profit. Good job, Mr. Bill Martino!

After that message there isn't much another old warrior can add. I'm not the over zealous type about religion either but, I do pray a lot more than I used to. Mostly because there are more things to pray about. In this case I don't have any trouble getting right serious with the man upstairs. Sure hope it helps. It seems that combined effort has started something going for the good. And, I hope I'm not wrong about that.
:)

As AC said,

Well said.

From the news I've seen, things seem to be a little less bad in the major cities than a couple of days ago, but I doubt that anything is getting repaired in the remote regions.
Things will probably worsen for those folks for some time.:(

Well said Bill.

This might be a good time for us to polish up those wooden model. At least that way we will be building up a nice backlog of interest for when the Kamis do get back on line.

The current strike is sort of fizzling out which is a sign the Maoists don't have the stranglehold on the country they thought they did. But it is far from over. Life will continue to be dangerous and difficult and we will have to continue to play everything by ear on a day to day basis.

Well said Uncle. We here in NP hope that the the Kami's and their families and actually all the other innocent people get through this trying time. I suppose few here could really imagine the feelings of those in Nepal. Will keep them in our prayers

The last sticks of incense I got were as thick as a thin HI khuk's spine and burned for 4 hours. Industrial strength is putting it mildly. Made me almost allergic with all of them that I burned that one spell when Yvsa and others were needing them. I think maybe I'll get some regular size ones instead and start getting back in the habit of lighting them.

( Edit: done and will light one first thing in the morning. )

Very well stated Uncle Bill,
It is good for the spirit of all those fine people to know that the concern you hold is for their welfare and not the money. It is a good feeling to know that you are more important to others for more than just a product. I know I appreciate that sentiment from my boss. I am sure the Kamis and their families will also. My prayers go out to all the terrorized and oppressed people over there!

You represented my own feelings as well. I am proud to associate with the fine people of this forum, and as long as you are out there hawking khukuris I will be here buying them as fast as I can scrounge up the money. It is, indeed, a win-win situation.:D

Thanks for posting that Uncle. Written with typical Humanity - which says it all.

With the recent rash of failures I'd ordinarily be on the phone every day raising my usual amount of hell but when I consider what everybody is going through over there to make these khukuris and try to get them shipped I can't say much except try to do your best and God bless you.

But with much help and much thanks to Art we'll get failures repaired and back in the field and the HI guarantee stays in effect no matter what.
