he'd probably have you teach him how! I know what you mean about the talk about the plain grain. but if you think of all the axe and hammer handles out there that have been in service for decades that are made of hickory. some of it does have a nice grain, just not as comon, but then it is cheap and as tough as anything else out there. ive also seen some of the handles that Ive put on really get nice over the years. not sure why sweat and blood and all kinds of junk getting on the handles would make them prettier, but it seems to.
it also smells nicer while you are grinding it than micarta!
