Well, this is good ol' 0-1. 1/8" stock with rose wood slab handle. Check out the thong hole :)

I have been working on a finish that I like. I just got some Bluing from Brownells....

This is a 600 grit hand rubbed / etch then buffed....It looks fairly feild friendly so I like it so far. The best overall etch I have done was with a lime though...go figure

Still need to get a system for sheaths or I think I'd be ready to start trying to sell some.

Anyways...thanks for the continous support here.......

10.5" OA length
5.375" cutting edge

I dont see anything wrong with that Brian. Looks like a nice handy knife design. Is the thong hole countersunk at at all? Cant tell from the picture. Looks good

Thanks Mark.

Its countersunk with a No. 8. right up to the wood edge. That may be why you dont see a bevel line, but it looks great to me :p

Now to figure out those darn sheaths

Looks pretty decent, Brian. Is that the bevel or a hamon I see? The pic doesn't do the knife justice, really. It looks like your finish is nice and the cutler's rivets on the handle look good, but if I may offer some advice for the next one, place the thong hole in line with the rivets to draw the eye down the handle in a linear path. Otherwise, nice job! :)

Thanks Jeff. Thats a hammon you see.....

The thong hole was an after thought but I'm glade I did it though.

The other thing is that the guard area is a little pointy for my taste.

Just keep learning right? :)

Looks good! I know your anxious to start making sheaths, but the guy that built and maintains my website, Chuck Burrows, (a member on this forum), has just finished videoing a sheath-making tape, and it should be out within the next couple of months. Keep up the good work!

That hamon looks good. If anyone has learned a lot here at Shoptalk, its been you, Brian. Looks like you've put it to good use! :)

I think the guard area looks fine myself. Some folks like to have a lot there to prevent the fingers from sliding down onto the blade. I also like the way you finished the rosewood. Question: Did you use anything on it, such as CA glue or sealer of any kind?

Therin lies the problem that will occur with the " Crit Pit" I happen to like the hole being at a differant visual plane. Just my opinion

The rosewood has natural oils so I just rubbed teak oil on it.

I feel like you guys have helped me more than the cuss words that keep leaking from my lips :p

Yeah, I'm beginning to see what you mean. Funny world, huh? It's almost like its hard to criticise in a beneficial way because no matter what you say it all boils down to a matter of taste. Some makers treat their knives as art and some treat them like tools. When the twain shall meet is where we'll probably find the most conflict. :)

just a test...

trying to mess with my signature...or whatever that is at the bottom where you can add links.....

hey RL.....I wondered if you'd stop by and take a look see :)

I like the simple functional look of your knife.

I sometimes make a paper sheath just to get an idea before I start cutting the expensive leather. I tend to make mostly the wrap or folded style.

yeah. I think I'll give the sheath making another go. What tyoe of thread do you mostly use?

Very Nice B. I like the blade profile especially. I looks like a good all around worker. If you've got any sheath questions I can put Tess on here and she'd be happy to help out with anything, too.

Thanks J. Neilson...

About the sheaths I mainly need to know what size/type of thread to get and what kind of leather coloring/treatment to get. I have a tandy leather store on my way home so I can go by there today. I have a piece of 7/8 oz piece thats just a raw tan color. I am going to try to not wet form the next one and see if I have better luck.
