Thread is a matter of personal preference and three and five strand threads are the most commonly used. I prefer to buy pre-waxed cord, and Tandy should carry 25 yard spools of 3-strand pre-waxed thread...even Walmart has 3-strand waxed linen cord in the beading section. Many leather workers swear by 5-strand thread, but then you will most likely have to buy a large quantity. Dyes and finishes are extremely variable. What type of look do you want? I normally use alcohol based dyes and either bag balm or an acrylic finish. Good luck. Tess
