It finally showed up at Jay's store today. He got 10 in, 3 were gone by the time I got there, I bought mine, and the other half are already spoken for. He's not even going to get them on his website before they're gone. This one is numbered 254 (out of ???). Great ergonomics, smooth opening, sharp as anything I've gotten from Kershaw (although sharper now!), feels great in my hand. Little surprised that the blade does not say the type of steel (it's 154CM), like my ZT 0200 (154CM), and my ZT 0400 (S30V).

that thing looks freakin' sweet...

it's not assisted open is it?

how does the lock work? does it lock up solid?

Is that supposed to be a glass breaker on the butt of the knife? The MUDD looks nice, but im waiting for the RAM.

how big is it? that ultra high clip looks great for near-invisible carry.

Blade: 3 3/4 in.
Overall: 8 7/8 in.
It's the best clip I've ever had. The knife is barely visible, only if you look for it directly.

Not assisted open, those massive thumbstuds work well. I believe the lock is patented by the Hawks, and it's as solid as anything else I've got.

I'm not sure it is designed to be a glass breaker, but it probably works the same. If not, you could probably file it to a point.
I'm waiting for the R.A.M. as well, and I'll get that one too when it comes out, but I also love the ZT line of knives. This is my third.

It's design was more as reference point when indexing to deploy the piece.

I'm sure you all can find other options for it as well.

W&W has good prices on ZT301's Are you going to get that too?
I have one of them it's my favorite folder.Thick titanium slab frame lock g-10
assisted opening anything compared to it would be $425 + It seems all strider to me.:D

I think that qualifies as dry wit :D.

does it come with a tool to adjust the pivot?

No it does not. But given the fact that is supposed to be resistant to to the elements due to its neoprene seal, and the fact that mine has no blade play and opens smoothly, I have no reason to play with the pivot. It would be the only knife of mine I haven't taken apart, but I also would be concerned about warranty issues if I did. Having said that, I'm sure there are already a few people on these forums who have taken it apart. I'm sure you've read enough posts here raving about KAI USA's excellent customer service, which is what I'll make use of should anything happen with this particular knife.

Jay does have good pricing. If I could easily get TAD gear's limited edition plain finish blades, that's probably the way I'd go. The whole striped blade thing just doesn't do it for me. But I'll agree with you, it's an incredible knife as well, and Jay has sold a fair number of them. I think I sold one for him last time someone was looking at one :D. I don't know if you've been to his store, but that happens all the time when the regulars/addicts are in there.
BTW, how's your thumb?

Yes I am one of those so called regulars.I have all the models I want right now, I'm just waiting for him to get new stuff in such as spyderco mules, emerson super commanders ect.:D

it's a great knife, and a very cool unique design by the hawks... even cooler that Kershaw continues not to shy away from challenging designs. It's a little bigger than the custom, but really needs to be for it's ZT application. it's a very easy and ergonomic knife to hold and open/close one handed. And the feel for the detent and lock is kind of unique and you just have to try one out.

I think that you have to order the mules direct from Spyderco, if I read the rules right. Also, talk to Jay about Emerson next time you're in there. Don't think he's ordering much from them anymore, although I could be wrong. If I'm in there when you go, say hi. I am my screen name, easy to spot in Jay's huge store :D.

How do you find the ergonomics on this knife? The one concern I had about it is the handle grooves look kind of square. Is it the kind of knife you could use for a long period of time with comfort?

Ergos are great on it. I'm unsure what you mean by "handle grooves", but all edges on the handle are rounded off. The notched choil behind the pivot falls naturally in the hand, and the large thumbwheel/ opening stud is a perfect place to put your thumb when open. I used it in a half-hour, life and death struggle with thick cardboard appliance boxes, and it never got uncomfortable.

Thomas, will all future ZT knives also not have the steel type marked on the blade, or just this particular run? I know it's 154, i was just curious.

Yea the blade steel will be designated in the future, at least I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't continue.
