black/OD G10 with thunderstor kevlar bolster
bolster pins are tan/clear G11
orange G10 pins
1/8" CPM S35VN

It looks pretty darn nice except for that bolster. Even all the way I think the G10 would have worked better
Remember just me.

Agreed. I'm not feelin' the bolster. Aside from the color and texture of it which I don't feels goes well with the rest, it's the angle. The spacer behind the bolster and the plunge line are straight up and down but the front of the bolster leans backwards. Beyond that however, the overall shape of the knife is very attractive and it all looks like nice clean work. Well done.

Looks good, I'll agree with others that the bolster is throwing things off. I'm not crazy about the color combination, but the main issue for me is the front of the bolster is angled back and the back of the bolster is straight up and down. Over all I like the shape and looks like it'd be comfortable to hold and use, and it's a very useful blade shape, and clean work. That said it's all about personal preference, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

629hugo, You can't please everyone so don't worry too much about trying. You made a very original knife and I'm pretty sure it will serve a sportsman well. My opinion is that I like the bolsters but I'm not crazy about the orange pins and liners. It's a nice knife and please share some more photos of your next one. Larry

Guys- I totally agree on the front angle of that bolster. I knew it as soon as I started to finish it. It looked ok after glue up but just got more awkward as I finished it. I have 3 more of these to do and I was considering a continuous scale without bolster. Question is do you think the two small pins in front will still be ok or should I shoot for 3 larger pins? It will be harder for me to add a new pin hole in now I would need to order 1/4" carbide 2 flute.

As for the orange pins I made them from 1/4" sheet of G-10. Cut to 5/16" X 1/4" then chucked in drill press. I drilled a 1/4" hole in a piece of steel. I used the drill press and tons of lube to spin and push the rectangle through the 1/4" hole. A little finish sanding and it fit perfect.

#1 and #2 have handles that are fighting. They don't know what they want to be. The tan/black as well as texture difference is far to great a contrast. As you can see, the mono-handle is far nicer, aesthetically. It does not do a user type knife any good to put too many different things into a handle. Simple is best on these type knives.

I think using all black G-10, including the pins, would have been the most attractive. I would have also opted for three evenly spaced same size pins.

So much going on with the top two. Makes me prefer the bottom. Like Stacy said I would have liked three even spaced pins. I think sometimes we try to do to much as craftsman for a wow factor. when the reality of it is simple is just as nice if not nicer.

Looks like good build quality and tried and true construction techniques.
Agree with the previous though, simple simple simple. Like just that G10 done on a nice curve revealing layers in that cool way g10 does with a couple of nice corbies? Choice.
But, I can't really complain here either. I, unlike many, like the burlap mYcarta. It has a backwoods look that just strikes a note with me. And hunter orange always has a nook here and there.

Good on ya.
Cheers.

I've seen these knives in person and the pics don't show the knives well as many photographs of knives fail to do. Aside from the bolster getting a little messed up on the first one the colors are quite a bit more mellow than the pictures show. Very nice knives in person. I also like the Thunderstorm Kevlar.

Looking good. To me there's just a bit to much difference between the colors and textures on the first two. It is hard to judge from photo's, but the kevlar is throwing me off. That said I've been known to mix and match handle materials for a unique look and to "see" what happens. To me, the bottom one is the most appealing, the middle one with a slightly darker handle without so much contrast to the bolsters would really be the ticket.

I think these look great. And very ingenious way to make the pins!

The only thing that throws my eye off is the angles of the plunge line, front of bolster, rear of bolster are all different. Looks wonky. Line em up and you're golden.

Oh, and I am by no means a craftsman. Just passing through and wanted to comment. Very nice work.

After my post yesterday I happened to see these knives in person. They turned out great. The pics dont do justice. The pics show more contrast than in real life. With that said though I still like the bottom one best.

Thanks
Mike

The pleasure was all mine. Like you said its nice to meet other knifemakers. Heck I get a kick out of talking to anyone that makes something.... Anything to keep you busy besides tv and playstations lol
