MY LCC IS "WOBBLING!"

I have recently began to use my LCC MA as my EDC as so that I can see if I want to get another one. Now when I say I use it...I MEAN IT! I am not abusing the knife however...just using it as I would any other of my folders in my collection.

The other day, after thumbing the knife open-I NEVER flick open my knives anymore-I noticed a small vibration when I initiated my cut. I subsequently gripped the base of the blade, and with the SLIGHTEST force, was able to wobble the action side to side, however not up and down.

The lock-up is tight, the pivot is tight, and the blade BARELY moves...but it IS there. WHAT DO I DO!!! Any quick fixes I can do at home, or do i just bite the bullet and send it back to MT for a looksy?

I love the design, and would LOVE to pick up the other version with micarta handle and maybe even black blade, but has this EVER happened to any of you guys before?

So you know...my knife is 0266 dated 08/2000 and it has LIGHTFOOT COMPACT COMBAT etched on the blade. It also has a step diagonal bolster, as opposed to the straight one. (First Generation???)

THANKS!!!

Where does the liner lock end up in the open position? What kind of lube do you use? If the liner lock doesn't travel all the way across the blade tang, I would try tightening up the pivot. If it goes all the way across, then send it back for adjustment.

Dude...the pivot is SO tight! i use litium soap or grease once a week when I clean the knife.

Anything else?

Try backing out the pivot screw compeletely, and clean out the inside threads with compressed air and re-lubricate and retighten the pivot screw. I've never had a folder I couldn't "cure" that way.

If that doesn't work, you may have to send it back.

Personally, I hate to send any knife back, because it means I won't have it for a while

You didn't say where the liner lock ends up in the open position. If it doesn't go across, perhaps it can be adjusted at home. If it needs to go back, remember to call them first and get a return authorization number. Put it on the outside of the box. This will insure the quickest possible return.

Give MT a call and get an RA number and send it back in. If you can, talk to Al over there. I have had nothing but exceptional service from them and always have gotten my stuff back in under a week.

Mine wobbles a little bit too. I have never cut anything with it, just opened, closed and admired it a couple hundred times

. When I first got it it was 100% solid. The liner mated up perfectly with the left-hand side of the tang. It could not have been further over without overhanging the side of the tang, the fit was so good. Now it seems that it goes a hair further over, so that tiny slice of tang is showing, and I can feel slight play sometimes when it is locked open. I believe this to be a pivot adjustment situation, since I can feel a tiny bit of wobble when the blade is unlocked but only half closed, and the lockup position is somewhat variable. Of course I don't know for sure, since the one Torx driver that I need is not in the set that I have. Grrr. I think it's a T9? Drat, and I was at Canadian Tire today, too. Knew I'd forget something.

I'm betting that fiddling with the pivot screw in the ways that have been proscribed will fix my knife, and DANGELO's too!

As you keep opening and closing the knife plus using it it can't help but loosen. Knives are like anything else over time metal can wear.

I use my LCC M/A as my edc and it still locks up as tight today as the day I got it. It is a first generation also. 9/2000. I think that you should send it back in and let MT fix it and it will be as good as new.

While it may be the nature of many lockbacks and linerlocks to loosen over time due to wear-related decreases in tolerances, it is also the nature of manufacturers today to make locking mechanisms that adjust almost infinitely for this wear, be it in the pivot, where the lock engages, and at the stop pin. The Axis is a prime example. Heartache to me is watching a liner wear over to the opposite side within the course of a few months...
