Alright....my leather working knife has got to go!!!I want to make a new one but need some input by some of you that have gone through some design changes over the years and have settled on a design you like. I know I should make it through a whole project without stropping it a couple times!!!! So, any preference on steel? steel thickness? Pics of a design you like and use would be awesome! Thank. Sunny

something that holds an edge (s90v,elmax , cpm10v, cts-xhp)
thin probably around 1/16-3/32 of an inch
chisel ground W/hollow bevel

something like this

Thanks...I havnt done a hooked bill yet....How wide of belt do you need to grind that shape ?

I make them straight and short, sort of like a wharncliffe with a 2" blade. The blade is about 3/4" wide. The spine is .080 to .100" and the bevel is a full flat grind to a near zero edge. The steel is usually whatever tough and fine edge stock I have. S35Vn, S90V, 3V, Elmax, 1095.....they will all work.

I like an almost round handle, either straight with a slight palm swell, or something with a heel like OTBalisong shows.

If you just have to make one, what Stacy describes, should do really well. Hard to beat a ergonomic utility knife and heavy duty razor blades.

This is what we use at work
App. 1,5mm thick and chisel ground. (app. 1inch wide)
A knife, a ruler, a spatula, all different uses
