My LEEK was SEIZED!!!! (Canada)

Cho, it probably wasn't a screw up.

Situation:

Customs drone inspects package. Finds knife - alarm bells, I'm sure. Inspects knife *snap* - more alarm bells. Can't figure out how to close it, gets help.

Can't figure out if it's "prohibited" so he/she calls the "prohibited weapons" specialist. Dude's not available, so they detain the item while they wait. Dude shows up, looks at knife, looks at statute, says "Well, I guess it's ok", and off it goes.

J-man: funny I thought things were the other way around.
At least here, the HOKs are actually not allow to sell to people under the age of 19.

Probably a store policy.

Well, in BC, tobacco and alcohol cannot be purchased by people under 19.

well my happy story wasn't so happy

my knives got through despite my fears and the purolator guy rang the bell. However I looked outside my window and didn't see any truck/van/car so I figured it was one of those Jehovah's Witness pair and didn't open

missed my knives!!! could have had those babies in my hands all day :(

now i have to find the pickup place which is really out of the way for me. i always thought you get two chances before they make you get it yourself. who's home at 1:50 p.m. anyways?

The Leek that got through was labeled 'Door Stop' :D I was almost offended to see the seller call it that.

So, this story has a happy ending afterall. Last night I called customs and left a message leaving my number and telling them to review Bill C68 Section III. Today at around 11am (I was in Philosophy class having a debate about weapons laws ironically) some guy from customs called me. Heres the conversation:

V: Hi
C: Hi, this is Canada International Mail Prohibited Importations Unit, how may I help you?
V: An item was seized from me and I believe the item is legally allowed in Canada.
C: First of all the item was not seized, it was detained. Detention number and name please.
*gives info*
C: It's a knife?
V: Yeah
C: It's in the post office, on the way
V: So..I don't have to pick it up or anything?
C: Nope, you will recieve it shortly

me: ...it went without a hitch. Look up Douk Douk and see what hoops I had to jump through to get it back. Actually, I am suprised that Canada Customs was as reasonable as it was considering how vague the laws are. Maybe they don't want to P'O' the masses otherwise no imports would come into the country. It would be kiss their jobs bye bye time since there will be one less thing for them to do. Remember you are the tax payer and you pay their wages... or, rather, your parents do.

Good Evening All-

V10011011, now all you will have to do is clean their greasy pawprints off of your new knife! You know those guys have a good time playing with detained toys before sending them on their way.

I had to report to jury duty directly after returning from a business trip about ten years ago. I declared my Benchmade to the officers and left it with them for safekeeping. When I returned a few hours later, it was covered in fingerprints and someone must have used it to cut a peanut butter n' jelly sandwich in half!

Glad to hear the good news up in Canada.

What model was the Benchmade?

Haha yep. Too bad I probably won't have it before prom, Canadian Post sucks. They probably are trying to get as many people happy as they can considering the SARS thing and how they want to get importation and they want people to be happy, go out to the streets and spend money.

That's about it. This knife never was confiscated. They were just waiting for the right person to make a determination.

Glad to see you are getting your knife.
