Thanks to a wonderful individual who desires to remain anonymous I now have the pleasure of this beautiful safety guard that is rattle free, accessible and gives me security if and when the spring breaks.

With his advice I finally have this machine handling exactly as it was meant to. Feather light touch to full hammer blows with easy manipulation of the treadle.
Thank You!!!!

That's a really nice guard. I especially like the silhouette.

I can never see too many power hammer pics!

Congrats!

Salem,
They are upgrading the server package so seeing the pics is hit and miss. If there are ongoing problems tomorrow I will link the pics from imageshack. I hope you get to see this...I'm certain you would enjoy the art of this guard.
yep...with this LG going and my arm strength returning I plan to have a good day tomorrow. Start a new line of medium forged blades, knife sheath with inlay, SS engraving (and do the dishes and take out the garbage).

The new guard looks like it will handle the job fine. What size hammer is it? Looks even smaller than the 25 pound hammer.

Hi Raymond,

This is a little Giant 20P. I was told the P stands for prototype as there are no others made in this size. From the one historical paper I could find the intent was to try and get a more global use of these hammers and get them into the house, specifically the kitchen. The hopes of LG were that it would be used for meat tenderizing, dicing onions (with an attachment) etc...

Actually it's a regular ol' 25 but I think the slight wide angle photo distorts the perspective. :)

With permission from the artist I should at least be able to give you design details Shawn. I know he didn't want to keep on making these instead of knives.

I'll be the first to jump in on this. If your worried about your spring buy a new one.

Next guards are worth there weight in gold and yours is outstanding. I love the silhouette.

Ray, 25 new styles sit about six inches lower than the old styles. This might be what your seeing.

I also heard that LG was developing a a hammer when run properly it could forge an egg. Gently cracking the shell for frying. :)

The new springs I got from Sid were 1/4" shorter. It didn't seem like it would make a difference but in my machine it did. BTW , my LG is so well tuned I would trust having any politician hold an egg in their palm (steadied by the anvil) and cracking it gently. I wouldn't do it though :)

Nice! You're right Dean, I really do enjoy the artistry of this guard. Looks like your builder buddy has either a CNC plasma torch or a steady hand. BTW those are some pretty long die keys, man!

That turned out really nice! Looks really good AND adds that extra security so you can hammer away with confidence.

Good stuff!

Thanks Salem...amd I'll cut those keys back 50% more?

Super cool!!!

I'm going to need to build a couple guards here pretty soon--- love the silhouette idea!!!

Looks good Dean. Remember, when you get tired of it taking up all that shop space just holler.

Hah!
You can have it when/if I squish my hand during the next WIP I am planning.
I still have to figure out a thank you gift for this artist/blacksmith/knife maker. Any ideas?
