My little United Nations...

I recognize a few of them; the German cat knife, the Japanese carpenter knife, the Sodbuster and Opinel of course.

Is there anything there from Switzerland? How about a nice SAK Soldier? If that's not a work knife, I don't know what is.

I'll toss a toothpick and a SAK tinker in there. One of the old Soldiers would fit right in. And you're right Carl. I need that barrel knife in there. I gotta admit I got a nice chuckle when I googled it:)

Yeah, I gotta wonder what the long arctic nights must have done to that guy who invented a folding knife that you had to take apart to open, and then take apart to close it. Time must have been long on his mind!:D You'd have to go quite a ways to find a more complicated way to open a knife just for a quick cut.

Carl.

You need a Swedish barrel knife in there. Nobody else on earth make s anything like that.

Carl.
If you could tell me who still makes a barrel knife, I'd be obliged.
Used to have one and it got misplaced during a move many years ago. I'd admire to replace it. It was cool.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement all!

@ G the c: I will check the two that I did not have listed. Thanks much. I spent a month in Eindhoven when I was in my early 20s, but spent most of my time thinking about Amsterdam. Anything from the Netherlands I could add to my list?

@ Humppa: I will follow up on your suggestion. The Mercator and Anchor knives I own as a result of your threads. Thanks!

@ Nixelplix: You are right about what I am looking for. I will join you in your search for the Shilin Cutter.

@ Fausto: Thank you for the clairification of my vague use of my native language! Your observation is astute and correct. Please pass along any suggestions from Italy. I either have carried or intend to carry and use all of these knives, and I would love for Italy to be represented.

To my knowledge there are no typical DUTCH knives.
You already have the knives most commonly used over here.
Here in the North of Holland the Herder Solingen Sodbuster is most commonly used(it's the knife my Dad and Granddad carried)
Furthermore the Opinel.
Add a SAK to your collection and you have all the knives that are used/carried the most over here.

Very nice collection BTW.
I have all but the Swede ;)

Humppa your threads are wonderful, I thank you for them, and I am very pleased you have weighed in on this one. I remember Mercators from when I was young but hadn't seen one in years and don't believe I ever owned one. It really is all that you described and I use it often. The Ankermesser I have just received and have not used it yet but I believe I will enjoy it very much:)

It´s good to hear and read that. I already feared, noone is interessted in what I was writting in my not-so-good-english. But the replies here on the coolest subforum were great. :)

Thank you guys for that. And it´s good to see, that you made finde decision on good knives.

Kind regards
Andi

this one is supposedly used for tobacco cutting

and this one is replica of clasp knives usually made with rams horn handle, steel ring was used for a string for neck carry and helped secure knife once opened, curiosity is that same pattern is found all over Balkans but in my surrounding was used mostly by women in field :)

@rinos: That is the Taschenfeitel, I was talking about (the middle pic). In Austria is it a typical traditional pattern. Where did you get this, is this a croatian maker?

Kind regards

i got it from friend,he told me that he found couple in one box of his great-grandfather (he use to have small shop of odds and ends in beginning of past century)but i don't know is this knife that old..
cool to found out it is actually Austrian origin, but nothing strange to have similar pattern here, since we where once part of Austro-Hungarian Empire

Thanks spydutch for that info. When you say Swede I think you may be referring to the Svord, third down on the right in my picture. It's a "peasant knife" made in New Zealand, which design the maker states is "based on models used in Bohemia and Bavaria 300 - 400 years ago." It is a really nice knife, and well worth the price it brings here in the States, in my view.

And thanks to rinos for showing us your "work" knives. All three of those I would be very happy to have in my collection. The EKA is available here. I'm just not sure which model to choose.

And Andi, I haven't found a Taschenfeitel yet, although I am looking. I look forward to more posts of yours showing us knives from your part of the world:)

Yup, you're right, I meant the Svord :o

@rinos: Your´re right, finding any typical austrian knife in your part of europe is not very seldom. The KK-Empire might have brought many of their items to your country and the croatian might have brought many of their items to the austrian homeland.

@axesbold: There are still some of typical German / Austria patterns around here. When I get one, I gonna make a new thread about that pattern.

Kind regards
Andi
