HOLY SH*T!
I LOVE the micarta! Cant wait to try my new belt sander out on micarta...finally get some contours and show off the layers.
Thrill'y, your sander will help with that. But honestly, it's easy to melt micarta and gum up the belts.
One of THE BEST tools for shaping scales, short of a big fast grinder, is the humble file. I have a set of full-size nicholson's with handles.
tape up the blade, put it in the vice in soft jaws, and start shaping. You'll be astonished how much material you can remove quickly with a fresh file.

looks great, what kind of tape did you use to protect it while etching?
Google blade forums etch and it should popHow do you do that? I know what the paint remover is but what does the water do and what do you use to etch the metal?
