:( I've been trading, selling, pawning off my Microtechs because of rotten customer service. The only 2 MT's that I had left were a couple of LUDT's. Both models had a slight rattle in the auto button when in the closed position. I really didn't want to end up giving them to someone else in this condition, even though they both function very well. After sending them both back to MT, I did get them back in a timely matter. Unfortunatly they both still have the slight "rattle" sound while in the closed position. When I called to find out what's up with my knives, MT told me that they could find nothing wrong with either knife but they would be happy to assist me with any other future concerns.

yeah i have a utx 70 and it took them almost 5 months to ship me a set of screws i paid 20 bucks:mad: for.
and then if i shiped it back to them i would not get it back b/c im not leo

Great huh

Considering the tight tolerances of their knives and metal-to-metal contact, .001 of an inch off can cause a slight noise. I have several MTs that have a slight "rattle" if shaken and they function as they should. I don't see a problem, but that's me.

It's not that you "would not get it back." Microtech's policy has always been that they will only return ship knives to LEOs and military personnel. All others have to have their knives shipped to an authorized dealer . . . who then ships to the owner. It protects MT from certain liabilities. You're dealing with an automatic knife, which is governed by certain federal, state, and local laws (US) and laws of other countries.

Does it only rattle in the closed position? Have you checked the backstop pin to see if it is free-floating in a sense?

That or the lanyard pin at the rear. They're both prone to rattle a little.

The bladestop pin in particular needs to be loose (free floating). By being able to freely rotate, it won't develop a flat spot from continued contact on the same spot with the blade upon opening.
If it wasn't free to rotate, you'd get vertical blade play after awhile...

The blade stop pin seems to be fine. I might go ahead and take them apart. The sound appears to be from inside the plunge button.
