My Military arrived today but...

I sent in my Military for repair a while ago and I just recieved it today. I'm pretty sure that this is a brand new one since the blade is missing a fine scratch that was present before I sent it in and the camo pattern is very different now (way better though!). I sent it in for a couple of problems (stripped screws and extreme side to side movement when the blade is closed). The screw problem was fixed, but the blade moves very easily (when the knife is closed) if I push towards the lock side, but takes a fair bit of force to move it towards the non lock side (which is how it should be). I know what the problem is, but I'm just not sure how to fix it. One of the washers is sort of "hanging" between the blade and the scale...
I don't want to send it back again (I live in Australia and there is a very long wait), and if I tighten the pivot, the blade goes so off centre that it touches he scale with little effort.
Any ideas?

The blade sometimes rubs against the scale when I open the knife one handed. It's odd because this was a brand new Millie and my older Millie had this probelm as well. Anyone else have this problem?

No, but that is indeed odd.

Did you take it apart again when you got it back? BTW, a bit of play when closed is nothing to worry about.

If you are dissatisfied still contact spyderco again. They've taken care of you last time when you messed up your knife. They might possibly do it again.

Personally, I wouldn't have expected them to fix it for free if I knew I had messed it up, as in the stripped screws. I am aware that everyones moral compass doesn't point in the same direction.

Nope, i didn't open it up when i got it again. I never actually took the knife apart the first time so technically the warranty wasn't void although I still appreciate the fact that not only did they not charge me, they actually sent me a brand new knife.

All of my Spydies have some "play" when closed. If I push hard enough I can make the blade touch the liner, it's normal. If you have a lot of "play" when open, then you may have a problem.

I wouldn't worry, you can bet they inspected the knife that was returned to you.

it's just that it moves far too easily. It takes a bit of effort to move the blade to the left liner (non lock side), but I can push the blade to the right liner with very little effort. It sometimes scrapes against the scale when I open the knife since you have to push a little bit on the hole to get a good purchase on it (if that makes sense)...

This sounds odd and I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but removing the clip seems to reduce the ease of play and it becomes slightly harder to move the blade up against the liner.

I think your looking for issues as this makes no sense. Second , I dont thnk you shold be pushing sideways when opening with the hole. I have almost no horizontal push when i open my spyders. I think your technique may be flawed and not your knife. Try pushing up more rather than sideways. If it locks up tight, you should be fine.

I fail to see what this has to do with anything. Since you seem to remember the original thread, I would like to point out that I had the same problem on the Military that i sent in. The stripped screws could have been a very simple thing to fix (request replacement screws from Spyderco and get the stripped ones removed at an IT store). In the end, I paid a slightly painful shipping cost of $30USD and got back a knife that was pretty much identical to the one I sent in, plus I had to wait more than 5 weeks to get it back. Heck the original topic of the thread I posted earlier was what would have been the best way to make the payment for the repairs, so please don't assume that I wasn't planning on paying.

This prompted me to undertake a little experiment. Basically I stuck a small book which wasn't too light and wasn't too heavy onto the end of a torx driver. I then placed the driver onto the blade (I was careful not to push the driver downwards) and took a picture of how far the blade moved. I repeated this step after removing the pocket clip screws and this is what I got:

Clip screwed on:

Clip screws removed (the clip is just there as a support base):

I know this doesn't really prove anything and it wasn't done with the best tools and under the best conditions, but oh well.

BTW: Shots of the awesome looking millie

and the washers:

Peace.

EDIT: please excuse the poor quality, since I had to take the pictures with one hand and I was using a camera-phone.

Great looking Milly! Imo if you bought it to use then you are good to go. If you bought it to collect and keep in a drawer/admire (nothing wrong with that) then you need to send it back or flip it cause you won't be happy with it.

It sure looks good though!

It sounds more like user error than an actual issue with the knife. Pushing sideways on my milis I can also acheive the blade rubbing against the G10 or CF, but it is obviously the wrong way to open the blade. Try lifting the blade with your thumb as opposed to pushing it sideways, or send it to me and I will test it out :p

+1 on it being operator malfunction.
