I am sure there are other "benchmade guys" with their first posts in the Spyderco forum. I have always respected spyderco knives but have always thought that Benchmades were for me. I still love my Benchmades but my current favorite knife is my Military. I bought this knife with four or five Benchmades for an amazing deal on craigslist. I only bought it because it was in the lot and I had heard the name and it was a good deal based on what little I knew about the Military.
This knife was made in 2007. It was dull with 1/4 of an inch broken off of the tip. I contact Spyderco and ask if I can send it in and buy a new blade. No, I cannot do that. Hmmmm. I decide to grind a new tip. The blade now looks great but the handle is HUGE and the blade is much shorter. It looks stupid and I obsess over everything especially my knives. So I decide that the handle needs to fit the blade. I cut the handle to fit the blade and sand and then polish to match. I do a nice clean job and most wouldn't know it wasn't factory. To me, it looks very proportionate now. I move over to my paper sharpening wheels and set the edge to about 12 degrees per side and give the bevels a nice mirror polish. It's razor sharp. I carry and use the knife for a few days. The Benchmades sit in the drawer. I love this knife.
Knives are for cutting. For me, knives are for slicing. I love the Military's blade because of it's outstanding edge geometry. A nice wide blade with a full flat grind. I am sure you guys talk about it all the time but it's new to me. It's an outstanding slicer. Anyway, here is a pic of my Military and I pray to god I am not going to become addicted to Spydercos now! Here is a crappy cell phone pic but you get the idea.
