Does any one have a way to get hundreds of little light scratches out of BG 42? I have a belt sander and a buffing wheel but am concerned that machine work will effect the heat treat. I could maybe use a polishing compound???
Why, did you run out of room for scratches, or did you get bored with this crop and want to start a new batch?
Just kidding, I know some people are more concerned with how it looks than how it works. You are right to be concerned about machine work, you can easily overheat a blade and ruin the heat-treat if you are not very careful. I would suggest hand sanding with wet-or-dry sandpaper, going only across the blade (the direction of the original grind lines). I would probably use spray adhesive to glue the sandpaper to a sheet of glass, put the glass on a firm surface, lay the knife flat on the sandpaper with the plunge line against the edge of the glass and stroke it along the length of the sheet. You'll lose the Spyder bug along with the scratches, but if you use a succession of finer grits you can put a mirror finish on your blade.
