I stripped the black coating off and sanded it down with my dual-action sander. I started at 320 grit, and went to 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, and finally 2500 grit sandpaper. Then I hand polished the blade with Simichrome metal polish and wiped it off with a soft cloth. I bought the micarta handles and slapped those on, along with a white pair of Flexxx's liners. Finally, I gave it a new home in a Spec-Ops Combat Master sheath in foliage green. It was a fun project for sure.

That is the most mirrorest of finishes I have seen on a becker yet!
I was afraid you had done that by hand until I read farther.

It would take a heck of a long time to do it my hand. I'd have been sanding for days on end. Even using the sander and hand polishing took a while.

Mine is shiny, but not THAT shiny. I only went to 2000 and no polish. I'm still not afraid to make big sticks into little sticks with mine. I would take that and put it in a display case and get another for use.

Do you work for Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop or something? They are the only ones I've ever seen polish a Becker up like that.

Ha, ha. Nope, I'm just a college kid with too much spare time. :D
Shiny! Nice finishing skills. When you gonna make your first blade of your own design?
I am in school for product design engineering, and I have a few thing made up in my CAD files. So we'll see.

Wow man, that looks like you chromed it! Beautiful! You'll have a hard time cuttin' lawnmowers with that thing now.

I brought my BK7 to 2000grit by hand. Yes, it took days on end...nearly lost fingers, developed carpal tunnel. It now has a nice natural patina, and all I have left are pictures of that shiny, clean blade. I had a tough decision to make whether to turn it into a safe-queen, or put it back into action. Decided to start with Kitchen Duty and then work my way back up to choppin timber and prying open bank vaults. It's pretty dull in finish for the most part now, though when the light hits it the whole blade shows the iridescent blue/purple/gold patterns of the patina. It also happens when Orcs are near.

Here's my process. Iphone pics didn't do it justice though.

She also wears Micarta scales and has a bit of pommel file-work done. I'll have to take pictures and post up soon.

Dang now that is shiny! Whats your address so I can get mine in the mail to you for the shine job? :D

Wow that might be the shiniest BK2 I've seen. Nice work.

Now good luck keeping it like that :D

Very cool indeed!! Want to do a similar job and my 9 but was going to do it by hand. Maybe not :) You want to make some extra college moneys!!!! Hahaah really good job!
