My Mom is in the Hospital - Possible Heart Attack

I'm glad she is doing better. Continued prayers for good results on the stress test and Bobbie's health in general. She looks like a really lovely lady, thanks for posting those photos!

Chai!

You noticed the charm she was wearing, eh? She was so upset yesterday because she didn't have it on (she wears it 24/7) and I explained to her that she probably had to remove it because of the tests they were doing around the chest area. She still grumbled about it!

I bought it for her 6 years ago when she saw it in a jewelry store in La Jolla CA when she was out visiting and she really wanted it. So I said, "Wrap it up!"

I spoke with Bob, my mom's husband, this morning. He said that the Doctor told him that they did not find anything wrong and that Bobbie could resume her normal activities, but she needs to take an 81mg aspirin each day.

Not being a medical person, I am "assuming" that she probably had a minor cardiac event as evidenced by the high enzyme level they found. I know that this particular enzyme can have a high level for various reasons and not just because of a cardiac event.

My best friend had a heart attack about 5 years ago (we are the same age), but they didn't find anything wrong. She also now takes an aspirin each day but carries nitro with her.

Because of that, I am going to just guess that Bobbie will be fine and hopefully she won't have anymore problems.

Thank you, everyone, for your smoke, prayers, and well wishes. I love my BF family.

Judy

I will send some extra late smoke too for a speedy recovery. Moms are priceless.

I'm glad to hear your Mom's doing better.Smoke & prayers sent for a speedy recovery.

Well, I hope 'better late than never' is true.:o

Lots of smoke and prayers going up from Virginia for you and your remarkable Mom.

If you need anything ... no more how little or how large ... please get in touch. Friends help friends, you know.:)

Bless my mother's heart... and her danged short term memory loss!!

One of my brothers and I did a conference call with her this morning, and she announced, "Did you know I was in the hospital this week?"

Me: "No, I didn't know. What happened?" (I never let on that she repeats herself)

Bobbie: "Well, I went to the local hospital and then they sent me to Hillside Hospital in Tulsa with sirens blasting!! And it turns out that I have a heart condition and they sent me home with medication to take for it. It's a large yellowish colored pill that I take every day."

Me: "Really? Wow. Ask Bob what the medication is that you are taking."

Bob gets on the phone:

Bob: "There's nothing wrong with her heart, and the pill she is taking is for her UTI."

Every 10 minutes is a new adventure for my mom, but Bob is very tolerant of her and takes wonderful care of her. They will celebrate their 21st Anniversary on August 19th.

I have no doubt that my mom will forever believe that she now has a heart condition. Bob did say that they have a followup visit with her PCP next Thursday, however.

I still think it was just a mild cardiac event with no lasting complications and she is just as healthy as one could hope for an 81 y/o fiesty and funnier than can be woman.

Thanks again for your smoke and prayers.

Damn, just saw this, late again! I'm glad your mother is OK, at least as far as the heart thing goes. Nasty business. My wife's mother is having the same memory issues but she has to deal with it long distance. I can sympathise with your predicament. Very best of luck with it.

I feel sorry for you. I had a rough divorce and my ex wife abandoned my kids.My mother helped me raise them from 1 and 2 years old. They are almost 17 and 18 now.I moved in with my mother after my divorce in 1995.Only lived away from her a few months at a time.Im a mommas boy.I see my Mom getting old and sick and it bothers me.Seems too quick.I really really hope your mother gets better and I hope you can spend a lot more time with her. When Im at my burn barrel tonight having a couple of beers I will send some smoke and prayers her way.Good luck and God bless.

Another Johny-come-late to the meetin.

Glad your mom is OK.

I'm long distance also! I'm in California and she is in Oklahoma.

Bob moved them from Texas to Oklahoma last year so that my mom would be close to the Cherokee Nation so she has access to free medical care. There are no Indian Clinics in Texas. There is a VA close by for Bob, so it works for both of them.

It is always a little entertaining and definitely requires exercising a LOT of patience when I am talking to my mom on the phone or when we are able to get together for one of our Girl's Road Trips.

Short Term Memory Loss sucks. And how can one get upset because one repeats themself because they don't remember they just said/asked the same thing 2-5 minutes ago?

I just act like it is the first time she has said it, and don't allow myself to get impatient with her. Sometimes it requires just listening for 20-30 minutes as she jumbles up her stories and then repeats a different version, or even the same one. It's not her fault and she isn't doing it on purpose.

She's my mom. I'll take her anyway I can get her. Preferably alive!!!

This pretty much describes how my wife handles it.
